Following the ratings success of The Bible mini-series on History, NBC ordered a sequel — AD: The Bible Continues. Has this mini-series been the answer to the network’s prayers? Will they want a second season?
Produced by Mark Burnett and Roma Downey, AD: The Bible Continues tells the tale of the later chapters of biblical history (following the Crucifixion of Christ). It focuses on the disciples who had to go forward and spread the teachings of Christ to a world dominated by political unrest. The cast includes Juan Pablo Di Pace, Adam Levy, Richard Coyle, Vincent Regan, Greta Scacchi, Babou Ceesay, Chipo Chung, Emmett J. Scanlan, Jodhi May, Joanne Whalley, Ken Bones, Kevin Doyle, Helen Daniels, and Fraser Ayers.
The series debuted on April 5th to a respectable 2.33 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.68 million viewers. Unfortunately, the numbers saw severe drops in weeks two (falling 28%) and three (falling 31%) and the rating have kept coming down nearly every week. AD has hit series lows of a 0.7 rating in the demo and little more than four million viewers.
Though this was billed as a mini-series, the producers have said that their writers have been working on scripting season two. Just in case the network wants a second season, they need the additional lead time to have episodes ready for next Easter.
Still, based on the ratings, there doesn’t seem to be much reason for NBC to order a second season of AD. They could make the show an annual event but the audience numbers really aren’t big enough for a network.
Burnett and Downey could however choose to take the project back to cable where The Bible was a big success for them. That also did very well with DVD sales. In today’s ever-shifting marketplace, they could find enough outlets to keep producing Bible-based series for years to come without being on a network.
What do you think? Would you like to see a second season of AD: The Bible Continues on NBC? Would you watch it elsewhere?
7/3 update: NBC has cancelled the series. They won’t air a second season but…
I love this show. If you saved one soul job well done.Help people know that God is real
Loved it! Will definitely be watching for the next season whatever network it is on!
Yes yes yes please have Season 2. Look around our World today. See the shape it’s in. This show is an inspiration. We need more wholesome shows like this. What a wonderful message to the world. The love and passion of Jesus.
Please have this as a regular show.
Desperate for more!!! Loved it!
I would absolutely love a second season of A.D. Would love it to be on NBC, but if not, I will watch it what ever channel they put it on. I commend NBC for putting this on network TV. We need more of this, not less. I would really ask NBC to give it a second season. A second chance. Please.
Best series of the Bible I have seen and I’m 73 yrs old. More realistic than reading words. I have read Bible 10 times, but this makes me think. Those of you who have experience CURSILLO this reminds me of how I felt when I made mine
I THINK THAT THE BIBLE A.D. SERIES THE BIBLE CONTINUES IS A TRULY WHOLESOME ENJOYABLE TV SERIES. IT IS NICE TO FINALLY BE ABLE TO WATCH A PROGRAM WITH THE ENTIRE FAMILY WHILE LEARNING ABOUT SOMETHING EDUCATIONAL & WITH RELIGIOUS BELIEFS I WOULD WATCH ANYTHING THAT HAS TO DO WITH JESUS CHRIST OR GODS WORD
Please make season 2. This series is so much better than the trash thats on tv now. It’s good to see decent shows on tv. It’s also good history about Christians.
Thank you so much.
I love it and I pray there is a season 2
Amen.
Absolutely would love to see another season. There is still much more to tell, and God knows many in our country will only hear this on TV!
Yes please continue this series A.D. The Bible! We can’t wait to watch this every Sunday night! It is so interesting! At last there is something meaningful to watch on the tube! Thank you NBC! Please continue this series!!
I have greatly appreciated this series and it has been well done. I would definitely watch a second season if it is forthcoming. Unfortunately, programs that offer nothing more than mindless garbage whereas those that actually have some valid content and are family friendly are often quickly axed. I appreciate NBC for carrying the A.D. series.
I vote for Season 2! Loved watching every segment & will absolutely continue watching more.
Please make season 2, we have not missed 1 episode.
