Following the ratings success of The Bible mini-series on History, NBC ordered a sequel — AD: The Bible Continues. Has this mini-series been the answer to the network’s prayers? Will they want a second season?
Produced by Mark Burnett and Roma Downey, AD: The Bible Continues tells the tale of the later chapters of biblical history (following the Crucifixion of Christ). It focuses on the disciples who had to go forward and spread the teachings of Christ to a world dominated by political unrest. The cast includes Juan Pablo Di Pace, Adam Levy, Richard Coyle, Vincent Regan, Greta Scacchi, Babou Ceesay, Chipo Chung, Emmett J. Scanlan, Jodhi May, Joanne Whalley, Ken Bones, Kevin Doyle, Helen Daniels, and Fraser Ayers.
The series debuted on April 5th to a respectable 2.33 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.68 million viewers. Unfortunately, the numbers saw severe drops in weeks two (falling 28%) and three (falling 31%) and the rating have kept coming down nearly every week. AD has hit series lows of a 0.7 rating in the demo and little more than four million viewers.
Though this was billed as a mini-series, the producers have said that their writers have been working on scripting season two. Just in case the network wants a second season, they need the additional lead time to have episodes ready for next Easter.
Still, based on the ratings, there doesn’t seem to be much reason for NBC to order a second season of AD. They could make the show an annual event but the audience numbers really aren’t big enough for a network.
Burnett and Downey could however choose to take the project back to cable where The Bible was a big success for them. That also did very well with DVD sales. In today’s ever-shifting marketplace, they could find enough outlets to keep producing Bible-based series for years to come without being on a network.
What do you think? Would you like to see a second season of AD: The Bible Continues on NBC? Would you watch it elsewhere?
7/3 update: NBC has cancelled the series. They won’t air a second season but…
Pleeeease
We need to hear the “rest of the story”
We r in apt attention as to what happens next. Have told 100s to watch and now… It was bday w/o ?????????
Yes I would watch another season. AD was well done. I hope NBC continues the series.
Yes, I would want to continue for season 2. I enjoy watching it.
Please continue the series . I look forward to seeing the series every Sunday . Do not end the show !
We would like to see the series continue. Sunday is the only night we watch tv just for AD.
Please keep this show going. Everyone is not into sex selling media. I love A.D. Bible, it something that me and my children sit and watch as a family. This is so disturbing that I am looking at a show called “I can do that” verses something knowledgeable and encouraging.
Get this show back on the air!
Renew the second season!!!!
Yes yes yes. I can’t believe
It is over. I am wanting to see the next episode right now. Please return it. We love it. So great to see this history. It’s more real then anything else on tv. Thanks for showing it. Great job NBC.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching AD. It made the book of Acts come alive and I didnt really get it, before watching season 1, all that the apostles went through and the great sacrifices that were made to spread the Gospel and to teach about Jesus and Christianity. So many lives were sacrificed. It was facinating and eye opening! Please! Bring on season 2!
I loved it and did not want it to end!!! I would absolutely watch more & hope it comes back. If it doesn’t I will be really disappointed!!!
Yes, my husband and I would definitely watch additional seasons of the AD. These shows inspired us to read the bible and learn about the various people in the bible from the show. Let’s have shows like this on to educate and inspire people than the current mindless programming. We will hope there are more seasons!! Thank you!
My family and I have enjoyed watching AD The Bible Continues. We have not missed one episode and look forward to them all. I sincerely hope that there is a season 2. It can be hard to hear sometimes. Great show! I pray there is a season 2.
Yes I would watch another season and many
more. A,D. was very well done. Intelligent
viewers are tired of all the empty junk
on TV, I hope NBC continues the series.
My husband and I LOVE the series! We look forward to it every week!
I watched every episode thought it was so good. I was on vacation and all I could think about is being around a TV so I wouldn’t miss an episode. My friends thought I was nuts. I am disapointed it ended.
Yes!!
Absolutely! Please continue this! We’ve been recording the episodes and watching them as a large group. So instead of it reflecting the views of one family, it instead should reflect multiple families. We’ve even begun a small group outreach program with a Bible study. Please keep them coming!
Absolutely. We miss it already
