Following the ratings success of The Bible mini-series on History, NBC ordered a sequel — AD: The Bible Continues. Has this mini-series been the answer to the network’s prayers? Will they want a second season?
Produced by Mark Burnett and Roma Downey, AD: The Bible Continues tells the tale of the later chapters of biblical history (following the Crucifixion of Christ). It focuses on the disciples who had to go forward and spread the teachings of Christ to a world dominated by political unrest. The cast includes Juan Pablo Di Pace, Adam Levy, Richard Coyle, Vincent Regan, Greta Scacchi, Babou Ceesay, Chipo Chung, Emmett J. Scanlan, Jodhi May, Joanne Whalley, Ken Bones, Kevin Doyle, Helen Daniels, and Fraser Ayers.
The series debuted on April 5th to a respectable 2.33 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.68 million viewers. Unfortunately, the numbers saw severe drops in weeks two (falling 28%) and three (falling 31%) and the rating have kept coming down nearly every week. AD has hit series lows of a 0.7 rating in the demo and little more than four million viewers.
Though this was billed as a mini-series, the producers have said that their writers have been working on scripting season two. Just in case the network wants a second season, they need the additional lead time to have episodes ready for next Easter.
Still, based on the ratings, there doesn’t seem to be much reason for NBC to order a second season of AD. They could make the show an annual event but the audience numbers really aren’t big enough for a network.
Burnett and Downey could however choose to take the project back to cable where The Bible was a big success for them. That also did very well with DVD sales. In today’s ever-shifting marketplace, they could find enough outlets to keep producing Bible-based series for years to come without being on a network.
What do you think? Would you like to see a second season of AD: The Bible Continues on NBC? Would you watch it elsewhere?
7/3 update: NBC has cancelled the series. They won’t air a second season but…
Please continue another season.
It’s amazing how every Sunday evening this was my perfect ending of the week. Now let’s giddy-up and start the next season.
This show is indeed one of my favorites!! They have done so well with Season one!! This show is awesome and I love it!!! Much wisdom and a great reminder of our ancient times and what not. This show is very meaningful for me and probably millions of others!!! Please continue this show and air another season! Season two!!! Please!!! Thank you!! 🙂
We enjoyed watching the series on NBC and also agreed that we certainly would like to watch the continuing series on NBC!!
Please, please, PLEASE bring this show back!!! This was the best show on and the only reason I watched channel 5. People need to know the stories of the Bible. This is our history. Most shows are not worth spending the time to watch, but this show has it all! Drama, suspense, truth, inspiration, struggle, love, sacrifice etc. This show helped me to see and understand some of the people of the Bible better than I had before.
I really enjoyed and got some must out of this great story. I pray that it will continue. It has helped me understand parts of the Bible so much easier.
I am very disappointed the series is over. I had looked forward to the next season
i felt it left the destuction of the temple in the air, it needs to have a second season to finish up the loose strings, it should be more of the lives of the disciples.
This needs to be in our lives more often. We need a second and more series of ad. The world has forgotten God and Jesus. This was the best program on tv on Sunday nights. I watched it faithfully and loved it. Please give me more. It’s not over yet in my eyes and heart. Too much is left unsaid , lots more need to be revealed. Please announce when the next ad is coming on. Thank you.
Totally agree!!!
YES!!! Please continue it. This has brought so many friends and family together. My family and I will be so disappointed if it does not continue. And it left off as a mystery, not fair! We want more!! The only show we watch!
I loved this show and I hope they bring it back to tv. I don’t care what channel it is on as long as I can keep watching, but on NBC more people can watch. I think more people should watch this show as compared to cop shows or reality shows.
PLEASE bring this back for Season 2. I just finished watching the last couple of shows and am now so disappointed that the season is over. This is a really great series and one enjoyed by families everywhere…. I just pray you renew it for Season 2. Thanks!
Yes, I would love to see it back on TV
That’s how a lot of people learn about the biblical stories. It is very important for people to know the true story of Jesus.
it was just getting really good…. I definately want it back.!!!! bring it back 🙂
Definitely want more episodes and another season lobe this show. Shows people the true power of Christ in people’s lives!!!!!!
A big absolute yes! Please continue another season. My husband and I loved this show and looked forward to every episode.
