NBC had big hopes for their all-drama Thursday night schedule. Unfortunately, the ratings have been dismal and now the network has cancelled their new drama, Allegiance, after five episodes.
On the Allegiance TV show, Katya and Mark O’Connor (Hope Davis and Scott Cohen) and their daughter Natalie (Margarita Levieva) are part of a dormant Russian sleeper cell that has just been reactivated. Their mission is to turn their son Alex (Gavin Stenhouse), an idealistic CIA analyst, into a spy. Others in the cast are Morgan Spector, Kenneth Choi, and Alex Peters.
The series debuted on February 5th to a dismal 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.98 million viewers. Then the numbers got even worse after that, hitting lows with a 0.7 in the demo and 3.32 million viewers.
NBC’s eight-episode mini-series The Slap has also been doing very poorly and recently relocated The Blacklist has been taking a beating opposite Scandal on ABC and with no lead-in support.
The network has now decided to pull the plug on Allegiance. They’re moving The Slap to 10pm for the remainder of its short run and will fill the 8pm timeslot with special editions of Dateline NBC.
It’s unclear how many episodes of Allegiance will be left unaired or when/if they will see the light of day. Whatever happens, it looks unlikely that the show’s relatively small audience will get any kind of closure.
What do you think? Did you like Allegiance on NBC? Do you think that the network should have cancelled this series? Should they air the remaining episodes?
The unaired episodes are available on nbc.com with a new one coming next Thursday 4/16 and 2 more after that which will be all that was produced.I only found out about the cancelation and the online availability yesterday. I hope someone picks it up for next season before the cast and writers scatter. As other posters have said, this is a failing of NBC that it didn’t draw higher rating because this is a GREAT SHOW !
I am so disappointed that Allegiance was cancelled. I thought this was a very good series and I loved all the characters . Put it on another night and at the very least finish the season. NBC, do right by the loyal fans here that feel the same as I do.
This show could have done better if it had been aired on a different night. Thursday nights are all about ABC. NBC can get larger audiences on Wednesdays.
I love you this show. It’s so much better than other shows that are still on air. I hope they release all the shows they have recorded.
We loved this show hope DirecTV or someone picks it up
This show is absolutely fantastic! I’ve been watching on demand and can’t understand why the ratings didn’t take off. Poor advertising, perhaps? I’ll be sad when there are no more episodes to watch – and I am very picky about my shows. Wondering if another channel could bring it back?
I think allot of people including me bothered the idea that a Russian spy family is better than the CIA and FBI by being steps ahead all the time and deceived the government for not knowing who they really are. Imagine it was not a Russian family, get we’re I am going. So I stopped watching it, I totally understand people don’t like watching it. But anyway one night I have nothing else to watch so I kinda like the characters in allegiance anyway I started to watch it again ignoring what bothered me and focused on the story alone… Read more »
This is exactly why I quit watching NBC because there always canceling great shows. So I thought I’d give them another chance but they don’t give the shows a chance to collect viewers. Do they know it’s by word of mouth from people. They should at least have 2 seasons. But it’s the almighty dollar they think about not viewers. So back to Hulu and HBO NOW. You lost me for the last time.
Love this show. Bring it back!
I am very disappointed I really liked the show and characters, I am surprised the ratings were low.
I am so disappointed!! Are you really going to just leave us hanging about how it ends? Is there any point in my ever getting involved with an NBC drama again when the chances are good you’ll leave us hanging again? Your drama series don’t make it perhaps because you don’t give them a chance to build a viewer ship. State of Affairs was another example of a very disappointing ending to what was shaping up to be a good series. Guess I’m back to Megyn Kelly and Sean Hanity for prime time.
Really great show I really want to see the next season and any upcoming episodes.
I am very disappointed, I really enjoyed this show. And want to see more and if Victor and Natalie will remain happy and safe and if they can get to Sara on time.
Episode 10 was best show of the week. Many of us suspected that long time FBI agent Faber was the mole. I’m just not sure if Michelle was in on it (her last words on the phone to Faber was “We have to talk”.
The only thing is now that Alex’s parents are becoming exposed, I can’t see how there can be a Season II.
I am very disappointed I wanted to see more of this show 🙁
This is so sad to hear!! It is a great show and wasn’t even given a chance. They at least need to air all episodes.
