ABC has cancelled John Ridley’s critically acclaimed, yet low-rated American Crime TV show. There will be no fourth season. Fans largely expected American Crime would be cancelled rather than renewed. The third season averaged a 0.39 rating in the 18 to 49 year old demographic and 1.92 million viewers. Acclaim is one thing, but ad-buys are king.
A crime drama anthology, the American Crime season three cast includes: Regina King, Felicity Huffman, Connor Jessup, Richard Cabral, and Benito Martinez. Sandra Oh, Cherry Jones, Tim DeKay, Janel Moloney, Dallas Roberts, Timothy Hutton, Lili Taylor, Ana Mulvoy-Ten, Mickaëlle X. Bizet, and Clayton Cardenas recurred in the third season on ABC.
The American Crime TV series cancellation was confirmed tonight, by Deadline. Don’t confuse this ABC series with the American Crime Story TV show, which is still going strong on FX.
What do you think? Were you a fan of the American Crime TV series? Did you expect it to be cancelled or renewed for a fourth season on ABC?
Please renew. Excellent show. Well written. Maybe it should be moved to another night?
Thought it was the most creative and provocative show on TV
We love this show! Very sad to see it go’
I always watched American Crime. I liked the different plots each season.
One of the few network shows I always watched…
Hated the commercials – this show should be on either Netflix or Amazon…..too good for network tv.
I LOVED season 1, Liked season 2 but after season 3 ended again with no questions being answered I’m not all that sad to see it go!!!!
Nooo…please bring it back..I look forward to it every season.
Again, an intelligent, wonderfully acted, topic appropriate series is cancelled while brain numbing series survive! Please re-consider renewing this thought provoking show with better advertising and promotion.
I was a major fan of each season and felt it was a gem of a series. But despite the fact that it was always a downer to watch with no clear “winners,” this season felt especially challenging to view weekly. Maybe it’s the divisiveness in our nation, or the mad leader we now have, but I couldn’t wait for this season to end to put me out of my misery of being drawn to American Crime. I’ll miss the fine acting–something not seen in most visual “filmed” projects these days.
This truly is a shame. This is a great show with relevant topics and wondeful actors. I do think this latest season was sort of “blah” – and in this day and age, “blah” doesn’t cut it. But I loved the show and am really sorry to see it go. It’s INTELLIGENT TV, unlike the simply horrid stuff like the Bachelor and Bachelorette. But of course, the demographic is the only thing that seems to count with the studios, and I suppose intelligent people are just in the wrong demographic.
This was a thought-provoking, exceptionally well acted program that was sadly doomed to fail with the prevailing mood & IQ in this country today.
This is a real shame. This show was one of the better shows to come out in the last few years. However dramatized, it told real stories reflecting some of the horrible things that happen in our world. It looks like people would have fake reality shows about dancing housewives and rich spoiled people than real reality. I sure wish someone else would pick up this show.
I totally agree with this comment. I didnt even know it existed until i came across it in netflix. I got hooked and then saw that it was cancelled. Im sad now.
Didn’t like the show but honestly if I wrote a great sitcom and had to choose between ABC & ANY OTHER NETWORK I’d take any other network without question because it would increase the odds of more than a single season. On the other hand if the series was junk I’d pray ABC signed the dotted line cause they renew the awful shows and rush to axe the great ones!
At least we know not to get too attached to any ABC series cause if it’s good it’s history for certain!
An okay show. Not a major loss like THE CATCH.
Darn it. Another intelligent , well written and superbly acted show is cancelled. Wonder who made that ridiculous call? I have enjoyed these programs but, obviously since they were shows one had to actually think about…the ratings were low. NetFlix is looking better and better.
This show was highly realistic and beautifully acted. It wasn’t sensationalistic, which is what the prime demographic wants. What a shame!!! I learned more about the unfortunate in our country through these stories. Well done and sad to see it go.
