Lifetime has reportedly cancelled their new BAPs TV show after four episodes. Two installments will remain unaired.
A reality show, BAPs follows a group of affluent African-American friends from St. Louis who self-identify as “BAPs” — Black American Princesses and Princes. The show debuted on July 23rd to weak ratings.
Today, the cast received bad news emails from Asylum Entertainment (which produces the show) which reads in part, “I wanted to let you know that Lifetime informed us that they will not be airing the last 2 episodes of BAPS. We’re very sorry it panned out this way. It’s very difficult to build an audience for an ensemble show like this one, but we’re very proud of the show and happy to have had the experience working with you.”
What do you think? Did you watch BAPs? Would you like to see the remaining episodes?
The show was a terrible idea, and you can tell none of those people had money or class. I think the show did horrible because people are tired of seeing black folks coon out for fame. The show was pointless.
I found this show interesting from a psychological and sociological standpoint, which was why I watched. After the first episode I went to my local Barnes and Noble and skimmed through the book Black Bourgeoisie, which discusses how the so called black elite get their attitudes and perceptions on life from. And while I pin pointed many of these tropes in the BAPS cast, I am still hard pressed to believe any of them are as wealthy as they say they are. Their houses look no different than the houses I see in middle class black neighborhoods in Maryland and… Read more »
And I put my money on it they are “Church Folk” that probably look down on people, because of the attire someone has on in church. I come from a family that are attorneys, engineers, accountants and have Masters and Phd”s. We were raised poor. But we had character, love respect for others . You can rise above anything , when you put your heart and mind to it. Taught to work hard for what you want in life. When we all before God will he say well done?… Think about it!
Typo I meant “when we all stand before God”..
I knew it, this show was dead on arrival. Black shows like this dont last on Lifetime nor TLC network. Their target audience is mostly gay, white men or straight white women. There was another black show they had for one episode on Lifetime network it was called Preacher Wives. That show was also dead on arrival. I have to say I enjoyed it. White people that watch lifetime do not want to watch us on tv.
I agree that I felt it was a kinda scripted show but being a true BAP I did support the show. I think it is sad that we do not support our people and support these HIP HOP shows. I know that most of the poblem is that these reality shows are not reality at all they are too damn scripted. Want to keep me really interested…show a family that has been knocked down and working to get up! But I think that they should at least show the last 2 episodes and then call it a day.
I’m upset, I wanted to see the last 2 episodes at least! That was the only reality show I could relate too!
Me too
For some reason, I bet this cancellation is because of the turmoil in Ferguson, Missouri right now given that Ferguson is a suburb of St Louis.
I love that show not fair 🙁
Good! They were fake anyhow. They claimed to be classy but they were far from it. They lived in middle class homes and swore they lived in Beverly Hills or Greenwich. They were the worse despiction of black “success” and thats saying a lot since there is still Love & HH and RHOA. But at least those shows entertainment level beats the hell out of BAPS. Adios and see you never!
Yes!!!! You said that very well and I am black.
That’s a bunch of crap I love the baps
Good bye BAPS. Horrible show and I’m glad it failed. Maybe Anisha should try joining “The Biggest Loser” cast.
Lolololol! I hate to say it but every time I watched this show I kept wondering — if they’re so rich why is everyone fat? I thought a staple of being extremely wealthy was being skinny. At least it seems that way for white folk. If they are so gun-ho for being so different from being the stereotypical black trope, you’d think they’d embody more of the rich way of life. I swear the “ghetto girl” was the slimmest one on the show. Kristen barely gets a pass because she just had a baby. But Anisha’s ass and stomach could… Read more »
I wanted to support this show because it is in St. Louis. After watching the show it reminds me how I was treated as a child because I was from the City of St. Louis. I didn’t like being treated like I was trash because of where I come from. Maybe the BAPS need to really find out what it means to be classy. It’s about treating people tje way you wamt to be treated , with respect. I don’t like being a victim of classism so I can’t support this show.
I loved the show. I just love reality tv in general and would have like to watch the remaining episodes that were not aired
I hated the show. I tried to support it because it was STL and I knew the cast but I couldn’t continue to watch it after the 2nd show. It did not represent the elite black community at all. I’m glad it’s gone
This was a horrible view of people in general. As a Black person, why would you treat someone unkind because of the class you believed you’re in?. You took it back to Slaves in the big house, compared to slaves in the field. You are a Black American Princess if you believe you are. Treating people less than because you’re educated and have money, makes you heartless and classless.
Totally agree
