If you thought a sitcom based on the Geico Cavemen was strange, one that’s based on a Twitter feed seems really crazy. $#*! My Dad Says also certainly wins the prize for having the most awkward title in TV history (CBS maintains that it should be read as Bleep My Dad Says). In any case, the show finally debuted last week. How did it do in the Nielsen ratings? Will it last or be quickly cancelled?
$#*! My Dad Says revolves around a young struggling writer who’s out of money and must move in with his cranky and opinionated father. The new TV show stars William Shatner, Jonathan Sadowski, Will Sasso, Nicole Sullivan, and Stephanie Lemelin.
In its first week on CBS, $#*! My Dad Says did very well, despite some poor reviews. In its Thursday night timeslot, the sitcom attracted a 4.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 12.58 million total viewers. That was enough to put the show in first place in both categories.

On the negative side, though a 4.0 rating is still great, it did lose almost 20% of its lead-in audience in the demographic. The Big Bang Theory scored a 4.9 rating.
The real question will be to see how many viewers return to watch week after week. The show is obviously benefiting from its timeslot, sandwiched between Big Bang and CSI. With such a great timeslot, the network’s expectations are high but for now, $#*! My Dad Says certainly looks safe from cancellation.
But, what do you think? Is $#*! My Dad Says worth watching week after week? Should it be kept or cancelled?

i think it was great, it’s nice to see denny crane back in action lol he is funnier than he knows and i guess people kept telling him and gave him a comedy sitcom, i love it, i not only got my gf into it, we got her parents watching it….six thumbs up, keep mad boston trek tv or whatever they’re calling it (=
im so happy to read that there will be a full season of ^*^* my dad says
i love this show i will say the first two was not that great bet it is getting better every show. i even got my dad hooked on the show
For me I am never looking for the “shock and awe” factor in entertainment. Things tend to grow on me slowly. Cheers ran for eleven seasons, but was almost cancelled during its first season because the ratings were so low. So you never know. I am finding it progressivley getting better and funnier with each episode.
I’ve watched all four episodes, originally because of time slot. I was not impressed by the first or second episode…however by the third episode my husband and I were laughing out loud (sadly so was my 18 year old son) and now we find ourselves saying ‘hollar!!!’ way too often. I think if they keep integrating more of the Mad TV cast the comedy/delivery will be great. Even last week’s episode was much better than the first two. I think this is a show were the supporting cast can outshine the main characters – not that what they are going… Read more »
The Jokes are Stale, the Plot is Stale, the acting is sub-par. But I’m sure it will last a good 5 seasons because **** like this always does.
i think this is a great tv show — LEAVE “CAPTIAN KIRK” ALONE!!!! this is just fun to watch….. shatner is fun to watch —
yes keep this show it is very funny come on how can you not lol at that the show. i will agree the first show was just cute but so far the show is getting funner.
I think the show get worse each week. Cancel it.
“YOU HAVE TO GIVE A SHOW more than 10-15 minutes before you can judge it.”
You really don’t. I switched it off at the first commercial. Yawn, goodbye.
I really like this show and think that it is funny and something different from all of the rest of the shows on TV. I think some of the people who have negatively commented on this who say they hated it but yet they’ve only watched 1/2 an episode, YOU HAVE TO GIVE A SHOW more than 10-15 minutes before you can judge it.
I gave the first episode a try and it was okay, but not must see. Last night, we decided to watch the third episode and I have changed my mind, we really liked it a lot, laughed out loud and that’s the clincher for me. I’m not going to try and rate it on merit or social consciousness, but if it makes my husband and I laugh and enjoy it, then it’s on my list and I hope they keep it.
This show was $#*!
They should just remove “My Dad says” from the title and leave it called what it is.
Cancel it and keep trash like this off the air.
It would be really nice if (1) William Shatner could learn his lines, instead of reading them from off-camera cue cards, which is very obvious and very annoying and (2) the actor who plays the move-in son could wipe the inappropriate smirk off of his face.
Arrggh. I am sick of watching crime and law enforcement series dramas. CSI this and LA Order that.. This was a wonderful change of pace and we were hooked.
Sounds to me that nothing flies unless its about police investigation/law drama/or yet another crappy medical mind numbing crap.
I only watched this show because of the title, but it needed to be on HBO. Bye-bye
