Starz has decided to cancel their Camelot TV series after one season. While the ratings weren’t bad for the Arthurian show, the numbers aren’t necessarily the whole reason why there won’t be a second season.
Camelot, as you might have guessed, is based on the legend of King Arthur. The series stars Jamie Campbell Bower as a young King Arthur, with Joseph Fiennes as Merlin, Eva Green as Morgan, and Tamsin Egerton as Guinevere.
The premiere attracted 1.1 million viewers with a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That marked the cable channel’s most-watched and highest-rated original series premiere to date. Unfortunately, the second installment dropped 24% in total viewership and subsequent episodes dropped even further. Still, by the end of the season, the ratings were on an upswing. The finale nearly matching the viewership of the premiere.
While Camelot may have ordinarily ended up getting a renewal from Starz, the ratings weren’t the only factor in play.
A statement from a Starz representative notes, “Due to significant production challenges, Starz has decided not to exercise the option for subsequent seasons of Camelot with our production partners GK-tv, Octagon Films and Take 5 Productions.” Deadline reports that some of those “challenges” included scheduling conflicts with some of the actors.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Camelot has been cancelled? Would you have liked to have seen a second season?

Are you fu**ing kidding me!!! There has to be a season 2. I’m dying to know what Morgan does next and can’t wait to see if she ever JUST DIES lol It doesn’t make sense to have stopped it and it still isn’t too late. I’m very disappointed : ( I know there’s still somebody out there that has the ability to bring it back. I just hope it’s done A.S.A.P.
I am not surprised, it was absolutely terrible. Story line had nothing to do with the original and the young man that plays Arthur was about as convincing in the role as my 7 year old grand daughter would have been.
The only good point was the filming but it had been cut and put together very badly.
Oh No!!!!…We have been taping and watching until the finale, and just got to the computer to check out when Season Two starts–very disappointed!!! One of the only series we watched, and enjoyed the different take on the main characters! Any chance of resuming???”
Well, this both sucks and is typical. I find a show I like — although at least I’m not head-over-heels like I am with ‘Castle’ or ‘White Collar’ — and it’s given half a freshman season, does reasonably well, considering its auspices, and when ‘production challenges’ occur, ‘Camelot’ gets the axe instead of some reshuffling. I agree wholeheartedly with the reviewer complaining about ‘reality’ programming — I would PAY the networks to either end reality programming or move all of it to one dedicated channel. *sigh* Poor ‘Camelot.’ It really could’ve been great, if TV execs had an ounce of… Read more »
No! This sucks! I love the series and everything around the Arthur tale.
Morgan and Merlin were fabulous actors. I was so looking forward for next season!
Like many others, felt a major letdown after 1st couple of episodes, BUT staying with it found the series to get better and better; great rebound and finale! Unfortunately, might have been too late; would loved to have seen a 2nd season; will miss great acting by Fiennes and Green; will not miss Arthur (weak).
Excellent premiere and finale. Pity the middle dragged a little. Still, an excellent show despite the brevity — 10 eps are way too short for any proper epic story and character development. Eva was sublime. Such a pity. It’s the type of writing that could have really developed in a second season.
Loved this show; sorry to see it end.
Deserved the axe… waste of talented actors (Green, Fiennes, Purefoy) on a pudding version of a well known story (needed more to be worthy of revisiting Arthur’s story, much better has been done with it).
And… terrible, just painful to watch lead actor!
Had me gone at Ep.2…
Absolutely ! I have been waiting.
i am very disappointed to hear there is no season two….i watched the whole season in 2 days i couldn’t get enough. they need to rethink the decision to cancel the show.
I really enjoyed this program and would even set my DVR to make sure I didn’t miss it. I think it’s a much better program than “The Tudors”. Why are all the shows that I find to my liking cancelled? Guess I’ll get rid of Starz now. Camelot was the only program I watched on it!
I just discovered this show a few days ago and watched the entire series over the weekend. I loved it and so I’m really, really disapointed to hear it won’t be coming back for a second season. It’s disapointing when stupid “reality” TV shows keep getting renewed season after season, that shows with exciting plot, great acting and amazing sets and costumes keep getting cancelled. Cancelled surviour and the bachelor and fund shows like Camelot instead. The quality of TV with rise drastically
Really enjoyed the series and would love to see it continue
I think that the hero of this drama is Marlin and others have not attraction of acting
