Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
WE really liked Cedar Cove and I read all Debbie Macomber’s books. Sure wish it would come back.
Why cancel a show that was doing so well? Hope somehow they decide to continue Cedar Cove. At least have the cliffhangers resolved. We need more good clean shows on television
Probably because the star did not renew her contract and/or had a big salary increase rider Hallmark did not want to pay. AM was filing a new ABC pilot last week so she is hoping for a prime time hit (not 🙂
I understand the decision to cancel Cedar Cove. However, perhaps you could at least put a two hour TV movie together as a conclusion. Or are Olivia, Jack, and company going to hang out in limbo forever? I would like to see a conclusion. Maybe if you ran it during your February movie promotion, you would find out how much people really appreciated the series .
I was so looking forward to the next season. This is so disappointing. I finally find a well written show with interesting characters and now yet again another great show cancelled.
Wow so disappointed I was looking forward to season 4
I think the show was great. I hate when a series ends and leaves everyone hanging. There were unresolved issues. It should at least have a series finale….
Was just searching the Internet to try and find out when season 4 of Cedar Cove was going to begin and unfortunately learned that the show has been cancelled. Very disappointed, my wife and I really enjoyed the show.
One reason why the ratings may have dropped each season is because of the long period of time between seasons. The writing is great, the actors are amazing and the setting is beautiful….
I hope you will consider bringing the show back and work at bringing in more viewers.
I loved the show and was really looking forward to its return.Very disappointed. You should have a ending show.
Why cancel such a great show we were looking forward to season 4 please bring this show back
Was so looking forward to more Cedar Cove episodes. Sad that a small drop in viewing would have such a negative impact on a very good show. It was refreshing compared to the aliens and vampires that have taken over many networks.
I would have liked to see some type of finale for Cedar Cove. This was one of my favorite television shows and looked forward to watching it on Saturday evenings. I am just really curious who makes the decisions to cancel these shows when so many viewers have an interest.
I was looking forward to another season… I can’t believe it is not returning.
Please bring it back, it was a good clean show and we need more of those!!
This show was good. Please bring back a 2 hour special to wrap up the lose ends.
Please bring back Cedar Cove…We are so disappointed that there is No Season 4…Please reconsider!!!
