NBC cancelled a lot of TV series last year, but thanks to steady high ratings, Dick Wolf’s Chicago Med TV show is back for a fourth season. Can the youngest surviving program in the successful Chicago franchise remain a top-five performer for the Peacock Network, or will it start slip? Will Chicago Med be cancelled or renewed for season five? Cancellation is unlikely, but stay tuned. **Status update below.
An NBC medical drama, Chicago Med stars Nick Gehlfuss, Torrey DeVitto, Colin Donnell, Norma Kuhling, Oliver Platt, Brian Tee, S. Epatha Merkerson, Yaya DaCosta, and Marlyne Barrett. The story follows the doctors, nurses, and staff of the state of the art Gaffney Chicago Medical Center. As a team, they rise to the Windy City’s most urgent medical challenges while working through confounding ethical quandaries. The series also features crossovers with Chicago Fire and Chicago PD.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
5/23 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context.

For comparisons: The third season of Chicago Med averaged a 1.22 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 6.62 million viewers (live + same day ratings).
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like the Chicago Med TV series? Should NBC have cancelled or renewed this TV show for season five?
**2/26/2019 Status Update: Chicago Med has been renewed for season five on NBC. Details here.
Why do the Chicago Trilogy shows all play the “background” music so loud it more than often drowns out the dialogue, this is more than annoying.
Med is so soapy… Everyone is angry or jumps in bed at the drop of a hat. They do things that aren’t kosher but get mad at others who do the same thing. No consistency or medical professionalism. Thought I would like it but it just doesn’t get better, glad it’s on when I’m not home.
I used to like the show, but it has really gone downhill this season. I’d be OK if it was cancelled and replaced by a show about a bakery–“Chicago Bread”–or a trash hauling company–“Chicago Waste”–or a school–“Chicago Ed”.
I don’t really care one way or the other. I am no longer watching Chicago Med because they wrote Sarah off. There were so many ways they could have written the story to not put her in the position to leave. I started watching for her and Dr. Charles. Dr. Charles’ character has disappointed me so I stopped watching it or any other One Chicago show.
