Code Black just wrapped its third and final season, but is there a chance for more? Recently, creator Michael Seitzman spoke with Deadline about the possible future of the cancelled CBS TV show.
The medical drama unfolds at Angels Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles — the busiest, most notorious ER in the country. The cast includes Marcia Gay Harden, Luis Guzmán, Boris Kodjoe, Harry Ford, Benjamin Hollingsworth, William Allen Young, Emily Tyra, Noah Gray-Cabey, Emily Alyn Lind, Moon Bloodgood, and Rob Lowe.
In the interview, Seitzman said he’s proud of the how Code Black ended:
One of the things I always wanted to explore in the show is the nature of grief. I wanted to be honest about it, face it head on, and really explore how messy it is, how mysterious it is, and how miraculous it is when we finally see some light. The way we dealt with it for all three seasons, with our patients and our doctors, is something I’m very proud of, especially the way we delved into it with Rob Lowe’s Ethan Willis this season, in looking at his PTSD and the way his mind processed his grief and guilt when it came to his brother.”
However, the CBS series creator revealed he did have plans for a fourth season:
There’s an aspect to Ryan McGarry’s documentary, which inspired the show, which I always found interesting. When the staff was moving from the old LA County Medical Center to the new one. It shook them up in a very particular way. In a way, there were ghosts in that old building that they found they needed and those ghosts didn’t exist in the new building. It affected the way they approached their jobs and their patients and they wondered if they could still be as intimate with them in the new building. I always wanted to do that in Code Black, take our staff out of Angels Memorial and see what would happen if we moved them into a new building. Flying a plane into Angels seemed to make that an easy creative transition.”
And what are the chances of a renewal from another network? Seitzman says they’re all still hopeful:
The studio has reached out to all of the streaming services. To be honest, we haven’t heard back from them yet. We’re hopeful.”
What do you think? Are you a fan of Code Black? Would you watch a fourth season?

Please don’t end Code Black… It has been one of my favorite shows always interesting did not like it when I found out it was cancelled please please please return
I absolutely loved the show and would watch another season. Code Black drew me in to the lives of all individuals and I found myself white knuckles at every episode. The actors in this series were amazing and talented beyond their years for I was so drawn in. This show really needs to continue. Please let another network pick it up… NBC .. ABC … Paramount… TNT.. USA..FX..
My family and I love to watch Code Black. We anxiously await the next episode each week. We are all very sad and upset that the show has been cancelled. We would definitely watch Season 4 and beyond. It makes no sense to me why Code Black would be cancelled when there are so many ridiculous shows on television that never get cancelled.
I love this show. I truly hope it continues.
I love the show. I hope it gets to come back.
I love the show. The plots have meaning and the show let’s you know what’s really going on. Doctor’s are NEEDED all over and the show’s plots are so real.
Love this series. So disappointed that it is being cancelled. Cast is great. Hope they reconsider and bring it back.
Yes yes yes!! I would definately watch Season 4, and every season after. I still dont understand why it was cancelled as its one of the best shows on television and my personal favorite. Adding Rob Lowe was perfect. The chemistry between all the actors and the writing is wonderful to watch. Let the show continue. If not on CBS, on another network.
I can’t understand why networks would cancel a show like code black which has great actors, very interesting story lines…only to add maybe one more ridiculous reality show or a mind numbing comedy that will only last 3 or 4 episodes. BRING BACK CODE BLACK…PLEASE!!!
Yes, I’d watch Code Black for many more seasons as long as Rob Lowe is on the show and the storylines are good. I only hope that CBS TV comes to their senses or Code Black get a new lease on life from another network.
This is one of the very best shows ever! It is a total tribute to humanity, and should never be cancelled. This show is real, it’s alive, and deserves to be on for a long time.
Yes I would watch a season 4,5,6,7,and more. I look forward to watching the show every Thursday. It’s one of the best shows on TV. Extremely disappointed that the show is canceled
Please keep hope alive. Code Black is a thought provoking m and heart throbbing that keeps us on edge.
Please figure out a way to keep this show going. Now I’ll have to watch Netflix until you fix this mess. This was a solid show with interesting charcters. Such a waste of tatlent.
It would be a real shame to let this TV series go. If CBS can’t find a way to see the value in the story of these people who work together, feel together, love together, and help those in need at critical times while trying to keep themselves whole…. well, then, CBS doesn’t understand anything about REAL LIFE !!! Please don’t let Code Black just disappear !! Find another Network !!! This series is truly a KEEPER !!
I love this show! Please bring it back!
