Code Black just wrapped its third and final season, but is there a chance for more? Recently, creator Michael Seitzman spoke with Deadline about the possible future of the cancelled CBS TV show.
The medical drama unfolds at Angels Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles — the busiest, most notorious ER in the country. The cast includes Marcia Gay Harden, Luis Guzmán, Boris Kodjoe, Harry Ford, Benjamin Hollingsworth, William Allen Young, Emily Tyra, Noah Gray-Cabey, Emily Alyn Lind, Moon Bloodgood, and Rob Lowe.
In the interview, Seitzman said he’s proud of the how Code Black ended:
One of the things I always wanted to explore in the show is the nature of grief. I wanted to be honest about it, face it head on, and really explore how messy it is, how mysterious it is, and how miraculous it is when we finally see some light. The way we dealt with it for all three seasons, with our patients and our doctors, is something I’m very proud of, especially the way we delved into it with Rob Lowe’s Ethan Willis this season, in looking at his PTSD and the way his mind processed his grief and guilt when it came to his brother.”
However, the CBS series creator revealed he did have plans for a fourth season:
There’s an aspect to Ryan McGarry’s documentary, which inspired the show, which I always found interesting. When the staff was moving from the old LA County Medical Center to the new one. It shook them up in a very particular way. In a way, there were ghosts in that old building that they found they needed and those ghosts didn’t exist in the new building. It affected the way they approached their jobs and their patients and they wondered if they could still be as intimate with them in the new building. I always wanted to do that in Code Black, take our staff out of Angels Memorial and see what would happen if we moved them into a new building. Flying a plane into Angels seemed to make that an easy creative transition.”
And what are the chances of a renewal from another network? Seitzman says they’re all still hopeful:
The studio has reached out to all of the streaming services. To be honest, we haven’t heard back from them yet. We’re hopeful.”
What do you think? Are you a fan of Code Black? Would you watch a fourth season?
I always liked the show, and adding Moon Bloodgood, and Rob Lowe, has made it even better.
If CBS doesn’t renew, another network should.
I would love for Code Black to return
Can’t believe code black has been cancelled it’s an excellent series and is so realistic the acting is superb , I’ve watched code black from the beginning and have thoroughly enjoyed it throughout its run , l do hope that it will return and hope another network takes it up . I was pleased to read that the producers are hoping that a series 4 could be possible… let’s hope so.
Y E S i would definitely watch more Code Black !!! I was Very upset when it ended !
I am very disappointed & upset in hearing that code black & night shift have both been cancelled!! WHY??? Because people liked the shows?? You always seem to take the good shows off & leave the crappy ones on.
It was a quality show, although during the first couple of seasons it was grittier.
Since they bought Rob Lowe into it, there was an element of schmaltz introduced.
Not his fault because he is a great actor but it did take some of the edges of the stories.
Code Black is a good show, I wish the network execs. would reconsider. One of the few shows I looked forward to every week.
CBS Made huge mistake cancelling Code Black was a solid show with great characters.
Difficult to understand why such an excellent program could be cancelled! We have enjoyed it for three years and we were looking forward to the next! We hope that it will find its way to another venue. So sad that something so worth watching was cancelled! There are too few programs of this caliber on TV anymore!
Absolutely I would keep watching!!! CODE BLACK is one of my favourite shows and I am devastated that it was cancelled. I feel as if I lost a good friend. I am still hoping, especially with this article, that perhaps some other network will pick it up and run with it. Such an outstanding cast. Talented and evidently likable…. they come across like a real family. A group who care about one another. We need to see more of their stories unfold.
Code Black is one of the better dramas on TV. It brings excitement, drama, romance, & non-stop action story lines in a TV world full of silly “reality” shows & non-stop talking-head opinion-***-news programs. Code Black is an oasis in a TV desert.
This is my favorite show on all of TV. Please find a way to renew this program.
Oh hell yeah i would watch this show for a long time to come it is one of my favs like top of the list favs
I would love to watch this show for many more years to come. This is a great show. They always take off my favorite shows, even my 16 year old son lobes this show. Why oh why. Please bring it back…
I ALREADY MISS THIS SHOW,. PLEASE BRING IT BACK! THE CHARACTERS WERE GREAT AND THERE’S JUST TOO MUCH GARBAGE ON TV. (REALITY SHOWS)
