Last season, the Code Black TV show started off with mediocre ratings and the numbers plunged in week two. It looked like the series would be cancelled but other CBS shows did even worse so Code Black was renewed for a second season — with some behind-the-scene changes. Will the ratings improve? Will there be a third season renewal? Stay tuned.
Code Black takes place in an Emergency Room in Los Angeles — the busiest, most notorious ER in the nation. The staggering influx of patients often outweighs the limited resources available to the devoted doctors and nurses who work there, creating a condition known as Code Black. In season two, the cast includes Marcia Gay Harden, Rob Lowe, Benjamin Hollingsworth, Harry Ford, Luis Guzman, Melanie Chandra, William Allen Young, Boris Kodjoe, and Jillian Murray.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
For comparisons: The first season of Code Black averaged a 1.27 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.11 million total viewers (live + same day ratings).
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you still like the Code Black TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for season three on CBS?
5/14 update: CBS has renewed Code Black for a third season. Details here.
The BEST Christmas gift would be for CBS to give their exceptionally loyal Code Black fans a Season Three renewal.
I like the show it’s the only show me and my husband watch together but, the constant cast changes don’t help…. especially getting rid of consistent cast members and boom someone new…
I will no longer be watching Code Black. The cast changes are ignorant and stupidity at it’s best. The very reason that fans loved the show was the believability and gel of the cast members. Now, it’s just like all the other mediocre medical shows on at present. Sadly another one bites the dust.
I am in love with this show! I agree, a renewal is in order!
This is the best show that I watch. Every episode leaves me in tears. I don’t get to watch it every day it’s on, as I am a teacher and spend most every night grading papers or tests, so I’m often about 2 or 3 days behind. I wish when they are scoring the watching of shows, they would take into consideration that not everybody can watch the shows within the 8 or 9 hour window, but take a couple days to get around to being able to watch them. Please continue Code Black for many seasons to come!
I cannot agree more with you Joshua. It is a sign of superb writing, casting, and directing to connect with the viewer on such a human and emotional level. The executive producers of Code Black have absolutely nailed it!!!! Code Black is up there with St. Elsewhere for best television medical drama.
Please renew , wife and I are both in the emergency field and enjoy this fast paced show. Adding Rob Lowe in season 2 has made show even better.
Please renew a 3rd season. I love this show And there are hardly any good shows on anymore that are worth watching. I love Dr shows so please CBS renew it . Please..
Code Black is an awesome show. So fast paced the hour flies by. Do the right thing and renew it for a season 3. The actors are also wonderful on the show.
I really enjoy Code Black. As stated by other viewers, when there are so many awful shows on tv it is indeed a pleasure to have at least one well written, well acted show. I hope it is renewed
I am also a retired RN. This show is great! The actors do an excellent job. So refreshing to have human stories for a change. Please continue the series, it’s so worthwhile. I lover it.
With all of the terrible shows on TV these days, it is so refreshing to see a superb show like Code Black. We record all shows and watch when we have time. Code black is always our first choice when watching recorded shows. I love , love, love it!!! So does my husband. Please, please do not cancel it. What a shame it would to take this quality program away from a loyal audience.

It is getting harder and harder to find programming worth wasting my time and brain on. Mostly mine is spent on reruns and Masterpiece Mystery. This program takes me, may there be enough other people out there that it may continue, that I get a fresh take on my difficulties through this dramatic interpretation of the difficulties of others.
I too really enjoy Code Black, especially the interaction between Marcia Gay Harden and Luis Guzman. Definitely should be renewed. I am a retired RN.
I really enjoy Code Black! I hope it will be renewed for another season!!
Please renew Code Black, it’s one of the better shows out there. I also hope that the same characters return for season 3, it’s not the same when they put in new characters.
