The struggle (and story) of the Bowman family ends tonight. The Colony TV show has been cancelled after three seasons but, would you have watched more episodes and a fourth season? Should it have been dropped?
A USA Network sci-fi drama, Colony stars Josh Holloway, Sarah Wayne Callies, Tory Kittles, Peter Jacobson, and Alex Neustaedter. The story unfolds in the near-future, in a world where citizens are under military occupation by the Colony Transitional Authority, as part of a large extraterrestrial invasion. Former FBI agent Will Bowman (Holloway) and wife Katie (Callies) were raising their daughter and two sons in Los Angeles, but were separated from the younger boy during the invasion and did everything they could to get him back. The third season kicked off six months after the season two finale, with Will and Katie rebuilding their family in the world beyond the walls. They begin a journey during which they uncover the truth behind the occupation. Once again, this family finds themselves having to choose sides.
The show debuted in January 2016 and got off to a positive start with a 0.44 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 1.36 million viewers. The series lost some steam over the course of the season. The first year averaged a 0.38 rating with 1.13 million and it was renewed for a second season.
Season two of Colony launched in January 2017 and the 13 episodes ended up averaging a 0.26 demo rating with 814,000 viewers. Compared to season one, that was down by 31% in the demo and 28% in viewership. Still, Colony was renewed for a third year even before the season two finale aired.
USA didn’t start running season three until May 2018. Thus far, the third season has averaged a 0.17 demo rating with 672,000 viewers. Compared to last year, that’s down by 36% and 18%, respectively.
Colony is currently one of USA Network’s lower-rated scripted series but, other shows aren’t doing that much better. While it’s not a complete surprise that USA cancelled Colony, they could have easily renewed it to wrap up the story with a final season. Unfortunately, they opted to end the series after three seasons and 36 episodes.
What do you think? Do you think that USA should have cancelled the Colony TV show? Should the series have been renewed for a fourth (and final) season or, is season three a good place to end it?
I definitely would warch a 4th season. Can it be saved
Stop the ridiculous hiatuses killing momentum. We regular guys need at least one show we can watch. Not everything needs to be a talk show or reality show… There’s nothing real about any of the “real housewives.” At least conclude the series. Everyone knows tv watching has changed over the recent years with DVR and so many other options. Also, people love to binge watch. So some wait until the season is over to start watching so they can get it all in at once. Gimme back my Colony! It was a bold move to kill Charlie and I thought… Read more »
I would have certainly watched the fourth season. It really isn’t fair when the networks cancel shows and leave the audience hanging with no closure. We invest our time so the least we deserve is a final season so we can see what happens to the characters we have come to love and hate. It makes people not want to watch anything that can’t be binge watched because you never know if it’s going to be cancelled. It’s just sad how little respect the networks give to the audiences.
Good point. I see a bunch of shows that look great, but, I won’t binge watch them because I know they were cancelled without conclusion.
I am soooo SICK TO DEATH of networks cancelling shows and not giving us, the viewers, closure that I now feel it is time to stop watching new shows either until they have finished airing completely or at least one season has passed. Either way, I feel strongly enough about it to change my viewing habits even more. Networks just aren’t changing with viewing habits. We don’t have to watch shows live anymore and we can bingewatch too. So, **** em’!
No we need closure, a 4th and final season. Come on quit always leaving the viewers hanging, especially like this on a cliffhanger.
Agreed. They can’t strap Will into one of those pods and then just leave it at that. I am invested in the Bowmans and want some closure.
I am SICK of networks cancelling shows & not giving the characters or the fans some sort of closure. This is sickening & extremely tiresome.
LOVE this show! Want to see them find a place somewhere and keep writing showing us more COLONY!
I agree. It seems like shows used to be able to plan a finale. It was sad to see them go, but at least they rapped up. It happens so often now, that it makes me not want to watch TV anymore.
Stopped watching TV for that same reason. Saw the previews to Colony, it looked interesting so I gave it a chance and fell in love with the product. Most disappointed.
They didn’t wrap up anything, they left us hanging with Will being strapped into one of those pods.
Completely agree!!! First of all, I could never find the show on USA, changed the day etc., so I had to find it on Hulu/Netflix, then I started DVR’ing this season.
So true. They don’t care about about anything but their viewership numbers so they can bonus
Hopefully, Netflix will pick then up for season 4?
Hope so!
Gunsmoke was on 20 years, Bonanza, 14. Colony was still good for a few more years.
So many of my favourites, are gone too soon, and so many bad shows are on, LONG past their “shelf life”.
I would like to see the shows I watch keep being renewed. So tired of reality crap!
Glee, last man on earth and many other **** shows last.
Law and Order: SVU is still on, which is great, but I agree. Many lousy shows on with no substance at all. I just subscribed to the Hulu channel to watch many of the international shows because I can’t find anything decent on TV anymore. Also a big fan of the shows on Amazon–Bosch, Man in the High Castle, Tin Star.
I would watch colony as long as its on tv. Great show on many levels.
The fans that have been faithfully watching this for 3 seasons need some kind of resolution. The last episode tonight just left me up in the air with a lot of questions.
I’ve really enjoyed colony. I’ll miss it. A perfect show for sci-fi. I have no i idea why they would cancel the series. I’m so tired of crime and trial series. Yes, I would have watched season 4
No, No , No,No, !!!! Please stop cancelling shows that are good . I’m so very tired of this trend that the companies think if a show drops 1% , Omg we gotta cancel! Most people TiVo these shows , do they take that into consideration?? I’m Done watching network shows they have canceled every single series I’ve been following.
DONE!!!
Wait up, Mr. Robot has lower ratings but not canceled yet , This is not fair and This is a shame for the USA network, I will not buy anything from their channel if they don’t renew Colony anymore.
I loved this show and hope another network picks it up for season 4 and more if possible. Perhaps they could do a few more episodes to give it a proper ending. So sad tight niw
I will keep buying it’s seasons on iTunes.
We love colony! Usa network: Bring back Colony for season 4 or atleast to end the storyline. – Sign the Petition! https://t.co/THj0gLV82y via @Change
I never watched it live on TV. Always on the DVR or demand, Like almost everybody. It’s too bad because this really was a great story.
If they knew that the ratings were falling why didn’t they at least come up with a series finale? Not much faith in USA network since this is the first time this is happened. I’ll stick to TNT, FX and HBO. Bye-bye!
