Tonight’s installment is the last episode of USA Network’s Common Law series — either for the season or for the series. It remains to be seen if this TV show will be cancelled or renewed for a second season.
Common Law follows a pair of LAPD detectives — Travis Marks (Michael Ealy) and Wes Mitchell (Warren Kole). They bicker but their talents mesh so well that their commanding officer, Captain Sutton (Jack McGee), orders them into counselling to keep the team together. Others in the cast include Sonya Walger, Elizabeth Chomko, Alicia Coppola, Nora Zehetner, and Reed Diamond.
The show debuted back on May 11th to 2.48 million viewers with a 0.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic. In terms of viewers, that was about 30% lower than Fairly Legal’s second season premiere a couple months earlier. Common Law did however significantly outperform the ninth episode of Fairly Legal that preceded it.

Over the course of the season, Common Law’s ratings have declined and that’s not positive. At the end of July, they hit a new low with 1.76 million and a 0.5 demo rating. The season has averaged 2.13 million with a 0.6 demo rating.
The show is the lowest-rated scripted series currently on USA. That’s somewhat understandable because it does air on Friday nights, a lesser-watched night of television. Still, Common Law’s numbers are worse than Fairly Legal’s season average (which also aired on Fridays) and much lower than the other scripted shows on USA this summer.
What will USA do? It’s hard to say but, based on the ratings, there doesn’t seem to be an overwhelming reason for them to renew Common Law for a second season.

USA should absolutely renew this show. I too watch on Friday nights and I watch many of USA’s shows. I rank this one right up there with White Collar, Suits and Unnecessary Roughness……….it just needs a better time slot. Why would USA give it such a bad time slot to start with? The other shows either followed established shows or had better nights, or both. Besides, my husband and I love to watch this TOGETHER. Please USA give it another fighting chance!
I like this show and personally I don’t see how a tv network can judge a show on it success when there has only been one season. You don’t see enough of the show or leave enough time for people to get involved in the show. If USA gets rid of this show, they are going to miss out on a show, that at the rate it’s going, could be great. People like the show since it keeps their attention. Please don’t cancel this show. It is one of the best shows on USA. Seriously people like the stupid show about the therapist who counsels football players, but not this one!
Good grief! Renew it! Put it someplace where it will get watched and appreciated. A nice chemistry among the characters. We need a semi-humorous break to the week. Please.
I absolutely LOVE Common Law. As others have pointed out it’s a very entertaining and engaging show. Travis and Wes have awesome chemistry and we’ve learned a great deal about them throughout this season.
I must say CL did enter the race so to speak with its share of odds, namely its air time and day, as well as the Olympic Games, however, it still did very well.
Having said that I’m definitely looking forward to many more seasons.
I love this show it is he best thing on USA network to me it gives me a great show to watch on Fridays I look forward to it all week I love that it is so unpredictable and not a cliche I am glad that it has action and comedy without a in your face girlfriend and long over thought love story that takes up most of the hour it is always entertaining
I really enjoy this show & think it fits really well with USA & their characters welcome theory. I really hope it gets a second season. It’s one of my favorites on USA.
This is an awsome series. Comedy and drama in each episode. Definitely holds my interest! They should move it to a better time slot (different day).

I hope they don’t cancel this show. I feel the acting is top notch I feel that the acting is top notch. I also feel that this show blends perfect with alll of the other shows that USA airs.

This is such a good show, please don’t cancel. There are so many dramas on right now, and some are really depressing. I am a Friday night TV person and it’s really nice to have a humorous show to watch. These guys have really good charisma and play off each other so well. At least give them another chance, one season hardly seems fair.
They should renew it because it is an awesome show. If they move it to a different day and time and it would be good.
