The doctor is out. There won’t be a second season of the Complications TV show. USA Network has decided to cancel the drama series after one season of 10 episodes.
Complications follows a disillusioned suburban doctor (Jason O’Mara) who’s still dealing with the emotional effects of his young daughter’s death from cancer. He unexpectedly becomes a vigilante hero when he intervenes in a drive-by shooting, saving a 12-year-old boy’s life. The rest of the cast includes Jessica Szohr, Lauren Stamile, Chris Chalk, Beth Riesgraf, and RonReaco Lee.
The series got off to a lackluster start in the ratings in late June with a 0.41 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 1.91 million viewers. Viewership saw a big drop in week two and remained pretty poor for the rest of the season. The 10 episodes ended up averaging a 0.35 in the demo with 1.44 million.
Except for Suits, all of USA’s existing dramas have been way down year-to-year and none of their new ones have been a hit in the ratings (including Mr. Robot).
Despite Complications’ ratings challenges, USA was still considering bringing the show back for a second season. Deadline reports that execs had secured a four-day extension on the cast contracts while they made their final decision. Execs tried to work out an economically feasable deal with Fox 21 TV Studios for a second season but, in the end, it didn’t happen.
The final episode of Complications aired on August 13th.
What do you think? Did you like the Complications TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled? Would you have watched a second season, perhaps on another channel?
I liked the first two episodes, I disregarded the obvious flaws and continued watching through the end. OK I have to agree that it is unpredictable BUT every episode had serious flaws, for example on the last episode, the cop puts the silencer in the gun exactly behind the car’s trunk. In front of a clinic? I mean couldn’t at least fit the silencer to the gun with his hands inside the trunk so he won’t be seen from the clinic?
Another good show gets cancelled by USA……I don’t see how they only go by “ratings” over quality and talent of cast & good writing of series episodes each week. We have idiots watching some USA garbage they put on as comedy…which is so embarrassing, it doesn’t merit a conversation. Too bad another station wouldn’t pick up this fine show…plus I thought Rush also was well done. USA rather would shows reruns of NCIS and Law & Order SVU, than give new shows a chance to grow…….One season….10 episodes isn’t much of a chance…especially during the summer. The morons who make… Read more »
Hey…USA…Complications was a great show! Bring it back! Building a story around the choices this proverbial “every man” had to make was a stroke of genius from the guy who did Burn Notice- Matt Nix. (now binging on four hours of it on Universal HD every Friday). Give Complications a chance! It has about the same audience size as Mr. Robot, and that piece of garbage got renewed. Quite frankly, Who cares about a hacker…they add nothing to society and I will NOT watch a show devoted to their plight or their feighned moral dilemmas (since they have no conscience… Read more »
Come on USA Network! Give this great exciting show Complications a 2nd season! The actors are excellent! The storyline always keeps you on the edge of your seat! It is so frustrating when you find a really interesting show like this that you look forward to watching every week and then it gets cancelled!!!???? Please reconsider this decision! I truly believe you won’t regret it!
Why would they take it off!!! This is my favorite show, absolutely favorite. I still have the “last” episode on my DVR! I love it, it is well written and the characters are great! I really really really love the series. PLEASE! Bring it back on. I don’t know what I will do without it. I love this show. This can’t be true.
This network USED to be one of my faves. Since they cancelled Burn Notice new shows have simply not been up to that quality. Complications was no’t very good or even close to believable (yes I know not much of scripted tv is supposed to be believable) but even though I watched the entire season, I was so relieved that it was over. Didn’t even give Mr. Robot a look despite the pretty good reviews. The preview trailers were confusing and each character seemed to be the vilen. USA please stop trying to be what you’re not. Hated the switch… Read more »
LOL… and you actually thought Burn Notice was believable?
Damn good show! Edgy. Twists and turns. Bring it back! And I’m a 66 r.old G-ma!
I like this show.
Who are the people in charging of cancelling shows? Do they really want them? Complications is a very well written and exciting show that keeps you on the edge of your seat and a show that has you wanting more. So sad!
I loved the Show Complications! I am really annoyed that the network didn’t give the show more time before cancelling it! Everyone I know loved watching the show so I don’t know where they are getting these low ratings from? Even on Facebook many people talked about the weeks episodes and how much they enjoyed it and were looking forward to the next one to see what would happen next! Shame on the network execs for not giving Complications at least one more season!
Complications was a very exciting show. Loved the characters and the story line kept us on the edge of our seat. So sad to see it cancelled. It was the best summer replacement show on the air. People didn’t give it a chance. No advertising by USA Network
This sucks. A show like this is trendy and has interesting characters. The story is complicated but that is expected. The best part is you don’t know what will happen next. Hey, USA, don’t cancel and bring in season 2.
I totally agree! There are fewer and fewer shows that promote thought and discussion! My buddies and I discuss each episode. USA really, you got a “gem” here.
What a shame there wont be a second seanon. I looked forward to watching it every week. What a shame.
It shouldn’t have been cancelled. We were faithful watchers & enjoyed the series. We were looking forward to season 2. Very disappointed!
I love this show its a shame that they want to cancel it. I am so upset all the good shows never stay
This show was getting good and was real exciting throughout the whole series. I thought it had a great storyline and the characters were very intriguing.
