Criminal Minds is losing one of their newest players. Deadline reports Damon Gupton is leaving the CBS TV show ahead of season 13.
Gupton joined the crime procedural last fall after series regular Thomas Gibson was fired a few episodes into season 12. The show’s cast also includes Joe Mantegna, Matthew Gray Gubler, A.J. Cook, Kirsten Vangsness, Aisha Tyler, Adam Rodriguez, and Paget Brewster.
According to Deadline, Gupton is leaving because of a creative change on Criminal Minds. Season 13 will be going in a different direction and it’s currently unclear who will return. As we reported earlier, long-time cast members Kirsten Vangsness and AJ Cook are holding out on joining the new season until they gain salary equality with their male co-stars.
Those co-stars, Joe Mantegna and Matthew Gray Gubler, have already signed on for season 13 of Criminal Minds, which is slated to debut this fall on CBS.
What do you think? Are you a fan of Criminal Minds? Will you miss Gupton on the CBS TV show?
Kirsten Vangsness is not equal in acting quality to other cast members on CRIMINAL MINDS. I sure hope she doesn’t return.
AJ Cook is a fine actress but still not the focus or star quality or as essential as other cast members.
Paget Brewster & Joe Mantegna are the primary stars of the show. Adam Rodriguez & Matthew Gubler are very good too.
Please do leave Kirsten. You’re not worth more money. Maybe you can find a spot on some silly comedy or freaky vampire show that I don’t watch.
I’m not sure he was on long enough to make a big difference, but his character could have been expanded upon more. I love Criminal Minds, but did not like how CBS seemed to follow suit like every other show on TV right now where there has to be a terrible background story that goes on for the entire season or longer, like having Reid I jail all season. t really grew weary towards the end, and it stopped being the first show I watched in that time slot. I usually picked it up on my DVR later. So a… Read more »
I never really cared for his character. I definitely miss Shemar Moore and the interaction between him and Garcia. That was the light heartedness in the middle of tragedy. I missed JJ when she was gone and was happy she came back. If they now lose JJ and Garcia, I will probably stop watching altogether unless there is nothing to watch. It is definitely not on my MUST watch list anymore. What could possibly be the different direction they are going in? Have a crime, go solve it. They don’t need a bunch of conspiracy political crap going on in… Read more »
I won’t miss Damon Gupton as I feel he didn’t contribute much. If JJ and Garcia leave, I probably will stop watching! Don’t understand why in this day and age, men are still getting paid more than woman for doing the same job! Get with the times people!
I don’t blame AJ and Garcia. They do the same job as the men on the show do. What excuse does the executives give for not paying equally to the actors. That kind of treatment is unfair. I can’t imagine the show being very good without them. I know if they leave I won’t continue to watch anymore.
I have been a waning fan of the show for a while, I really only got back into last season because I was intrigued by the near hysteria and conspiracy theories perpetuated by Thomas Gibson fans. Of the three characters recently hurled at us, Gupton’s role is the only one I felt was truly interesting. I think Taylor’s character could be interesting, but the writing is flat for her. Rodriguez is Morgan, the two are interchangeable thus far. As to pay parity, JJ and Garcia both got on my nerves at one point or another, but the actresses have been… Read more »
I love Criminal Minds. It is unfortunate that there is a salary dispute. A. J. Cook and Kirsten Vangsness are both very good in their roles on this show. I thought Damon Gupton also did a good job. Good luck in putting things in order for Season 13 of Criminal Minds. I look forward to the start of a new season.
I love this show so much. I thought I was going to have trouble watching without Hodge on it, but I adapted. I think that they all should make the same amount of money, I think this happens to often and it is just bull—-. I may not watch it anymore.
Yes, I’ll miss Damon Gupton, but he hasn’t been part of the show long enough to have his absence change how I feel about the series. I’m more concerned about his reasons ~ if Criminal Minds will undergo creative changes, & go in a different direction ~ well now, THAT is upsetting! TRULY upsetting would be the loss of Kirsten Vangsness & to a slightly lesser degree, A. J. Cooke. ‘Can’t even imagine it without “Penelope” AND “Derek.” After 11+ seasons, I did stop watching when Shemar Moore left, but have always been such a fan of Adam Rodriguez that… Read more »
It was Manny’s choice 2 leave,
Not CBS’s
I missed him also!
(He couldnt accept/live w/ the darkness
On the show,CMinds or wrk on it)
I love this show if Garcia and a j don’t come back I will not watch
All the actors should be paid the same. It’s disgraceful to do otherwise. They are extremely important to this show. How many more actors does Criminal Minds plan on losing?
I love Criminal Minds. I have no idea what direction they are going, but they need to pay all of the actors man or woman the same amount. Talk about gender bias. Those two women make this show and lets move on. I like all of the actors. I can’t believe the women are paid less then the men. Get real, we are in 2017, not 1817.
Maybe they should have gotten all info about wages at the beginning !
I love this show I’ve been watching from the very start, but I don’t think it will be the same without Kristen & AJ I think that you should just pay them and keep it moving
I don’t know how many episodes he was in. I didn’t see him in the ones I saw. Timing is everything. I don’t blame him for leaving. I wish him good luck.
They let him go!
