We’ve received several emails from readers who love CSI: NY and are worried that it’s been cancelled. Will the show ever return? The simple answer is, “Yes, it’s on hiatus until March 30th.” But, while the TV series hasn’t been canned yet, Gary Sinise and company could certainly be in their final season.
It’s no secret that the ratings have declined over the years and that’s probably one of the reasons that CBS moved it to a Friday night timeslot. It still brings in a respectable 10 million viewers each week but is one of the network’s worst performer in the prized 18-49 demographic, even when you adjust for the Friday timeslot. Year-to-year, the show is also down by 7% in the demo.
At the recent TCA press tour, CBS entertainment president Nina Tassler noted that, though she loves the CSI shows, “Nothing runs forever. How you handle it, the most important thing is how you respect your audience, how you respect your cast, and being incredibly sensitive to how you wrap up any show when it ends a successful run. But we are in those talking stages now (about how to end the CSIs).”
It’s unlikely that CBS will end all three CSI series this year but they could certainly drop one or two of them. Based on the ratings, the New York version would be first in line to be cancelled.
What do you think? Is this the last season of CSI: NY? Should the series be cancelled or renewed for one more season?

Noooooo! Don’t cancel CSI: New York. I love it. 🙂
Please do not cancel CSI NY. I am a fan of all three CSI’s although I think CSI:Miami is the best. I have watched them ever since they started. I still can’t believe Marg Helgenberger is gone from the original CSI. Where will they go?
I ‘d like to see CSI: Miami cancelled – it is sooooo boring and sooooo unrealistic – come one – high heels and white slax at a crime scene – give me a break. I haven’t watched it but once this season.
In CSI: NY, I really like Sela Ward’s character – what an improvement over Melinda K.
But again, as with many, many long-runnning series, the writers tend to get cutsey with personal dramas when viewerers are looking for intriguing cases – not personal melodramas. I hope this doesn’t happen with CSI: New York.
csi ny is the best of the csi’s and should NOT be cancelled—why do the networks always cancel things worth watching and leave JUNK on
I can not believe ya’ll are taking out a great show… cancel the Miami one, its realy not for reals. What woman dresses as if they are going out for the evening when doing a job like theirs?? Heels Pant Suits no way!!! You have got to keep NY … an Vegas. Love them both. At least they dress the parts. And can you not bring back Grissom?? prefer him to the others.
Please don’t cancel CSI New York. You just can’t help but like every one of the group, unlike Miami, where if you get one that you like Horatio is bound to drive him or her off the show. I can’t even stand to watch CSI Miami any more. Get rid of it instead!! I can’t agree with Jennifer. I like Sela Ward. I liked Stella but Jo fits like a glove with the rest. I do agree with Karen about the reality shows, although to call them reality is stretching up a bit much. Get rid of all of them.
Please don’t cancel CSI:NewYork. The only CSI I watched. Cancel other CSIs Please.
I never could watch CSI:Miami. There is something about their style of acting that makes me uncomfortable. Recently, I have returned to watching CSI, the original, since Ted Danson has joined the cast. He seems to make the show a little less serious. As for CSI:NY, I discovered this show about 2 years ago, and have been watching it continuously, when I can. I also try to watch the reruns of the show on Lifetime, if I can stay awake that late. I agree, if CBS wants to end the CSI Shows, they should start with CSI:Miami. Put CSI:NY up… Read more »
Luv CSI: NY. It is actually my favorite of the three CSI’s. I feel it has never been given the “push” that CBS gives the other two CSI’s, and that may account for some low ratings. Also, your ratings are not accurate unless you take a poll of the entire viewing audience. CSI: NY must stay! Gary Senise is an awesome actor, and the show has real drama, not melodrama like CSI: Miami.
Cancel CSI: NY?! I certainly hope not. It’s one of my favorite shows. For that matter, most of the shows I watch on primetime TV are CBS shows. I wish the networks would stop with the reality shows already. I have enough reality in my own life. I don’t need to watch it on TV, too.
CSI New York has been the best of the three CSIs since William Peterson left. The cast is superb, Gary Sinise is a superior actor and holds his own with any script. Remember, it’s the script writers who can make or break ANY series, if they can keep the interest of the targeted demographics, they can run FOREVER (ie: Gunsmoke). So, say your prayers, you fans of CSI. It’s one of the few shows that doesn’t rely on non stop sex, perversions, near nudity and profanity, for ratings. I should add that although these show DO contain such things it’s… Read more »
Run it one more season.
I LOOOOOVE CSI:NY and it’s the ONLY one of the series I will watch. I agree with Tiffany – “the original just wasn’t the same after “Grissom” left and the Miami one got too creepy for my tastes.” TOTALLY! I, too, think that cancelling this particular CSI would be a HUGE mistake! CSY:NY has THE best cast who all mesh so well together and I enjoy each of their separate story lines. I was SOOOO disappointed when Melinda Kanakaredes (Det. Stella Bonasera) left the show as she and Lt. Mac Taylor had such a GREAT relationship!! I always looked forward… Read more »
i love csi ny. if u want to cancel a csi cancel csi miami and that pompas ass. also like the man said no more reality shows PLEASE
CSI NY huge mistake Friday night TV was worth staying home for CSI and Blue Bloods , to replace it with gifted man how stupid is that. It never fear the good ones take the bullet.
In total agreement, Vickie………….we did the same……….first time in many years actually stayed home for CSI:NY and Blue Bloods. If they want to cancel a CSI…….make it the original since it’s not the original anymore……………only ones left are Sara and Nick. Catherine’s now gone too and Danson stinks!!! Tuck it in CBS……..and you can take away Miami also……….and I live there……….CSI:NY is only real good one left………hope “someone” see this. Gifted Man……….UGH!!!!!!!!
