While Dante would say, “Abandon hope, all ye who enter here,” we’re not, but that’s just because nobody talks like that, anymore. USA Network has cancelled its Damnation TV show after just one season of 10 episodes. That means the season one finale, episode 1.10, “God’s Body,” which aired on January 18th, will now serve as the unintentional Damnation TV series finale.
A USA Network 1930s period drama, Damnation stars Killian Scott, Logan Marshall-Green, Sarah Jones, Chasten Harmon, Melinda Page Hamilton, Christopher Heyerdahl, Joe Adler, Teach Grant, Dan Donohue, David Haysom, Arnold Pinnock, and Rohan Mead. The heartland labor drama series centers on Seth Davenport (Scott). Although he’s a labor agitator, he poses as a small town Iowa preacher. Seth soon finds himself up against professional strikebreaker Creeley Turner (Marshall-Green), with whom he shares a dark and bloody past.
Damnation: A Look at the Ratings
The first season of Damnation averaged a 0.18 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 682,000 viewers. Out of the 10 USA Network TV shows we’re currently tracking, Damnation ranked seventh in terms of its demo ratings and rose to sixth place in terms of total audience size. While it could have gone either way, the cancellation isn’t shocking.
Series Creator Tony Tost on the Damnation Cancellation
In addition to Deadline and Variety confirming USA has passed on picking up Damnation season two, creator Tony Tost addressed the cancellation on Twitter. Check it out.
I love what we made, and how we went about making it. I'm proud to have #DamnationTV out there for people to still find days and weeks and months and years from now. Thanks and love to all who helped and supported and watched. https://t.co/fjjUaTM0zu

Earlier this week, Tost was still holding out hope for a Damnation season two renewal.
What do you think? Did you watch the first season? Should USA Network have cancelled or renewed Damnation for a second season? Sound off in the comments.
Of course they cancelled it, it was one of my FAVORITE shows. It was fresh, different, interesting, well acted, and period correct, What do they plan on replacing it with; a reality show, or maybe a game show? I am disgusted!
So do I – I am DISAPOINTED, it had historic value if you inteligent and have taste. But I guess stupidity is in style now. USA lost a permanent view.
So… another show for intelligent people cancelled. Just our luck. This was a great show, which put a dramatic spotlight on a very important but somewhat forgotten era in US history. The acting and directing were superb, and the bleak vistas of the farmland and countryside actually evoked the feel of the Great Depression. I want it back!
I agree, enjoyed the series. The way it ended just left everyone hanging. Please don’t replace with a reality show or game show!!!!
Awesome show!!! I can’t believe it is being cancelled!! Very disappointed!!
Giselle you are so right about the move to Thursday’s! That was certainly another reason the show didn’t do well along with no promoting or advertising of the show!
Damnation was such a great show that was set up to fail. How do you expect a show to do well when no one had heard of it? I understand the 1st season will be repeated on Netflix starting February 1st. If we get the word out maybe it will get a second season.
I agree. I just now found out about the show and am watching it on VOD. Awesome show!
I hate that this show has been cancelled. Was so good. All the good shows always get cancelled.
NOOOOOO! I recorded this and just finished watching it. It is a really good show. It was well acted and written. I was really hoping for another season. It was refreshing to see something new and innovative. Not another Dr or police show. I hope it gets picked up by another network. maybe someone will stasrt a petition.
This was the best show on television!! No more of this channel. I will pass the word around!!!
I think that stinks. Damnation was a great show with a good plot and I really liked Tony’s ideas for season two. I genuinely thought it had the characteristics of at least a 3 or 4 season show. I’m very disappointed in USA’s decision.
What a pity!!! Damnation was one of the best shows on TV… portrayed in a style that reminded me a little of the TV series: “Justified.” However, Damnation’s main characters were multi-layered and well developed… And I liked the way they revealed a little more of themselves and their back-story as the show progressed, instead of all at once. I WILL SURELY MISS DAMNATION! Don’t know what USA was thinking moving it from Tuesday where it was a MUST WATCH SHOW to Thursday, to battle with the already well-established TGIT lineup! That was a stupid, stupid move!!! Of course Damnation’s… Read more »
Nooooooo!!!!! What a shame. It is one of my favorite shows. Hopefully USA will see the error of their ways and bring it back.
It was a fantastic show. We watch a lot of TV series, and this was one of the best. It ranks with Hell on Wheels and some of the other great ones. Very sorry it’s canceled
Enjoyed the show. Agree how about 2 hr movie to as others said to wrap up
At least make a two-hour TV movie tieing up all the loose ends… C’mon! There’s nearly 700,000 people waiting for answers!
Shows have been renewed by other networks with much worse ratings and a lot fewer average viewers. You need to hope Netflix or Hulu call to help. Fans of the show should try and get in touch with them.
So disappointed right now!!!!!! Honestly, really bummed. We love this show, and I have a difficult time finding series that I can get into 🙁
It was a good show and it left viewers hanging about which of the women was killed. Maybe, a TV movie to tie up loose ends.
What a shame! This was a great show!
