With Revolution taking a break, NBC decided to try a new Monday night drama, Deception. Has it been a ratings success for the network or will it end up being cancelled like so many of their other Monday night dramas?
On Deception, a wealthy party girl has been mysteriously murdered. Her childhood friend, now a San Francisco narcotics detective, is convinced by her former partner to go undercover into the wealthy world she thought she’d left behind. The cast includes Laz Alonso, Meagan Good, Victor Garber, Katherine LaNasa, Tate Donovan, Wes Brown, and Ella Rae Peck.
The series debuted in January to a 2.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.66 million total viewers. Those were hardly impressive numbers and were less than half of what Revolution’s premiere drew a few months earlier. Year-to-year however, it was a big improvement over the ratings NBC was getting for Rock Center with Brian Williams.
In week two, Deception’s ratings dropped more than 20% to a 1.6 demo rating and 4.14 million. That was not positive — and the ratings kept falling. As we now near the end of Deception’s 11 episode run, the ratings seem to have stabilized at a 1.1 demo rating with about 3.3 million viewers.
Those numbers are terrible and certainly there’s no ratings justification for NBC to renew Deception for a second season. They cancelled shows like Chase and The Playboy Club and they had better numbers than Deception.
On the positive side, at least NBC aired all of the episodes. Unfortunately, viewers are unlikely to ever get their storyline questions answered.
But, what do you think? Should NBC stick with Deception and give it another shot next year or should they cancel it instead? Why do you think it didn’t catch on with a bigger audience?
It should be cancelled after that weak finale. It looks like a day time drama trying to be a mysterious evening drama.
They rushed the last episode with too many twists, turns and reveals but I was left cold. I was certainly not shocked by the identity of Vivian’s killer.
What kind of ending was that?
The ratings drop is understandable.
Please don’t cancel.. I love the show!! I tune in every Monday.. I’m on the edge of my seat wanting more!!!!
KEEP KEEP KEEP DECEPTION
This is a very good show with a great storyline and good acting but unfortunately they put these shows on during difficult time slots as sabotage. The deliberateness is so transparent. The best venue these days appear to be cable as the networks are only looking for are talent shows or ridiculous reality shows. See they have dumbed down television and hopefully sometime in the near future these insane shows will come to a screetching halt. Why do you think British shows and other countries tv have better written shows. Netflix soars because viewers watch old shows and movies. Hopefully… Read more »
I hope that this program is renewed. The story line is great and so are the actors. The writers have done a great job and the final episode left too many questions. Please renew this program.!!!
I love watching this show! Each week it’s the only reason I can’t wait till Mondays. I hope they give it a chance for another season. I think trying a little earlier of a time slot might help.
Love love love it!!!!!!!!! Don’t cancel! !!!!!
This is a great show and the finale left everyone hanging. Please bring it back next year!!!
Keep this show this is the only show i watch besides sportscenter and walking dead
I love this show as well… Great actors and storyline! I looked forward to every episode and I’m bummed it’s over, it just went SO fast! Perhaps the ratings are low because it wasn’t marketed well enough??? Once I found out about it from my man. who likes Megan Good, we started watching it from episode two and haven’t missed one. I’d hate to not find out all of the answers to my, and millions of others, questions. PLEASE DON’T CANCEL!!!!
please keep Deception on this is a very good show
Please, please, please don’t cancel this fantastic show. The characters are strong, the plot is riveting, and the acting is outstanding! Give it a second season. It’s good TV, plain and simple!
