Designated Survivor has a new leader. Deadline reports Keith Eisner will join the ABC TV series as showrunner for season two.
The political drama follows Tom Kirkman (Kiefer Sutherland), a lower-level Cabinet member who ends up becoming the President of the United States after a massive attack on the capital. The cast also includes Natascha McElhone, Adan Canto, Italia Ricci, LaMonica Garrett, Tanner Buchanan, Kal Penn, and Maggie Q.
While ABC has not officially renewed Designated Survivor for a second season yet, it’s more than likely. And now, the hiring of Eisner as the showrunner for season two heavily suggests a renewal is right around the corner.
Eisner will be the show’s fourth showrunner, succeeding Amy B. Harris, Jon Harmon Feldman, and Jeff Melvoin.

It’s a very good show, and the +3 and +7 make up for the low live ratings, but they’re on their 4th show runner already. It will need a miracle to get past season two.

Eagerly awaiting season 2 and beyond. If only we could get a *real* Tom Kirkman in the White House…

I absolutely love this show. I am a big fan of The West Wing, and Designated Survivor is, IMO another political hit. Looking forward to Season 2 in the fall.

Please do not cancel this show. It is a wonderful drama with twists and turns every week. One of the best shows on prime time today!!!!
This was our show to watch each week. The only one we would stop everything to watch. Now it is getting too partisan. Go back to the fictional world with the mysterious, gripping takeover plot. Don’t be like “ER”, where sometimes you forgot they were even in a hospital. Keep the intrigue entertaining. If we want to set our teeth on edge watching contemporary politics, we’ll watch cable.
Juan, it’s a show about a reluctant President! There HAS to be some politics at somepoint for it to be even REMOTELY realistic!
This is an amazing show. Keeps you on edge of your seat and contains a good number of twists/turns to keep you guessing. Also does nice job of blending evil characters with good ones. Of course Keifer Sutherland is pretty much great in anything he does, so with him in lead role had to know this program had a great chance to succeed from the onset.
I love this show! I have always loved Kiefer Sutherland and was so happy to see him return. Please renew!!!!!!
