On Tuesday, ABC pre-empted Detroit 1-8-7 with a special edition of 20/20 in which Diane Sawyer interviewed Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford’s husband about the Tucson shooting. Based on the preliminary ratings for the program, ABC made a good choice. It attracted a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.18 million total viewers. While those aren’t great numbers, they’re a 30% improvement over last week’s episode of Detroit 1-8-7 (1.0 in the demo with 5.05 million).
Next week, the cop drama will be replaced by the annual State of the Union address. Right now, Detroit 1-8-7 is scheduled to return on February 1st but one has to wonder if that will actually happen. ABC has a track record of pre-empting low-rated shows with the intention of bringing them back but it just never happens.
The network has ordered 18 installments of Detroit 1-8-7 and 12 of those have aired so far. It would seem like a waste not to air the remaining six but the same could be said for the leftover seven episodes of The Whole Truth. If ABC can keep coming up with specials that will perform better, we may likely have seen the last of low-rated Detroit 1-8-7.
What do you think? Will Detroit 1-8-7 return to the regular schedule or lost in hiatus and cancelled?

Don’t cancel this show. I think it’s great!
It is just like what happened with a similar show made in New Orleans. I enjoyed that show too.
R U kidding? One of the few decent , intriguing shows this season. At least let us watch the few remaining episodes. R we stuck with Hawaii 50?
I loved Detroit 187. I hope they keep running the show. Seems like all the shows I like they get canceled. It is very frustrating.
I am still waiting for Detroit 1-8-7 to come back. I loved this show from the first episode which I happened to catch accidentally. All the actors are great and the story lines & their characters personal lives made it entertaining and kept me coming back. I stopped watching The Good Wife for this.
Please put this show back on, enough with all the reality shows, some times we just want to kick back with a decent cop drama series, and Detroit 187 was a very good one. And, if abc can’t realize that, then maybe a good cable net work will pick it up. Abc has a history of not being stable with their programing anyhow!!
I agree with Deanna—–this is a good show—-take off some of that other garbage
ABC cares nothing about the viewing audience. It has cancelled some very good show, Invasion, Flashback, happy Town, and The Gates and now Detroit 187 possibly. If money is all ABC is concerned about why don’t they stick to their reality shows and let the better networks take on the good programing. I want watch a sporting event on ABC because I am afraid it will be canceled at halftime.
Please reconsider bringing back Detroit 187. I would stay up past bedtime to see it and never missed an episode. I loved the show and look forward to its return.
This is fantastic acting, good story line, and great on site location! This show should not be cancelled.
We love this show. Please dont cancel. The writing and acting are some of the best out there. It just goes to show you when ever my husband and I love love a show it gets cancelled. We cant wait until this show comes on. We are in our mid 50’s and we hate reality shows. When there is a reality show about pawn shops, there is something wrong we are scraping the bottom of the barrow to fill a time slot..
I totally agree, Denise. EVERY SINGLE TIME we love a show, it gets cancelled! I’m beginning to think it’s “us”, but see you feel the same way! Thank you! This show was on our VERY SHORT list of shows on either of the channels, and we watched religiously and HATED when it was preempted for some dumb reason. Nothing that couldn’t have been shown later. I’m thinking of boycotting ABC. You are so right … pawn shops? Women of Orange County, etc. Yuck! Guess that’s why I now watch American Bald Eagle websites (and other feathered friends … the ultimate… Read more »
Another vote to continue the series: well written, decent story line, held my attention, not another shlock cop show.
This is my favorite new show of last season. Try it at a different time. The show is too good to drop.
I loved that show! Get rid of some of the other garbage!
I also like this show very much. Great acting and always great story lines. Please keep this show.
We also loved the show, please keep it instead of all those stupid reality shows!!
please TNT or USA pick-up this seires and give it tthe respect that ABC is too short-sighted to see
ABC… You have no concept of good programing… DETROIT 187 was the closest thing to NYPD BLUE that you have had since you shut that show down… Now you want to bring in ROOKIE BLUE which is a pathetic non reality bull… I can tell this from the promos… ABC you have lost me as a viewer… because your ROOKIE moves…. Learn a lesson from CBS with BLUE BLOODS and CSI and with NBC with the LAW & ORDER BILLION DOLLAR shows…
I agree with mr Parnell
