Liam James is Ben/Adam Warren. Andrew McCarthy is Hank Asher. Floriana Lima is Bridey Cruz. Young Willa and Danny are played by Madeleine Arthur and Rarmian Newton.

Claire finally realizes what Adam and Ben endured when she visits the hell hole-like tomb where they were kept, exploding with grief, anger and frustration. Meanwhile Jane looks to make a getaway as Nina closes in on Doug’s location, and Agent Clements’ time is running out. Hank comes face to face with his inner demons, and one phone call shatters Ben’s world, forcing him to tackle an uncertain destiny.

The Family was canceled due to low ratings. As of the May 8th episode, the series averaged 0.83 in the 18-49 year-old viewer demographic and drew an average total audience of 3.276 million viewers. We have been tracking 25 scripted ABC series during the 2015-16 television season. Those numbers leave The Family ranked 21st out of 25, when sorted by both the demo and total average audience.

ABC cancelled The Family on Thursday, May 12, 2016, so this first season finale was not written as an intentional TV series finale. If the audience will get sufficient closure or satisfaction from “What Took So Long,” remains to be seen.

I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw this was the series finale. So disappointing! I have watched every episode. This finale does not close the series. What great new episodes could have been made! This show was great because it is not your average tv show. The subject matter was dark, yet plausible. Such a pity to end a great show. I’m sorry I’m not the target demographic, but I watched it faithfully, and would have continued.
The Family was one of the best shows of the year and very disappointed it has been cancelled by ABC. Wish ABC management will reconsider!

Horrible that ABC cancelled this show. They should’ve moved it to a different day and time slot. It was a good plot. The people making these decisions are idiots, and ABC is full of idiots who get paid big bucks to make idiotic decisions like this. You suck the public in then pull the rug out. SMH
I am so upset!!! This was a fantastic show and we were shocked by what I thought was the SEASON finale! I found this show so engaging that I’m compelled to write on here – something I’ve never done for any other shows I liked that were kicked to the curb!!! Easily in my top ten favorites of all time – I know shows aren’t ever brought back so I am going to hold out hope that someone else picks it up. I love this show! I am sooo disappointed that there won’t be another season. You can’t just leave us hanging like that. There’s so much more that could happen. I need a real closure with this show. Please renew the show and make another season!!!
Really enjoyed this show. Hate that it was cancelled. The finale was awesome. No I don’t have closure with the series but there again do we ever? Family dynamics in this show addressed so any issues. There is no closure but it is interesting to speculate about what could happen if there were future episodes. Seems that the most interesting shows are never renewed- the finale was awesome never saw that coming . Can’t believe all the stupid reality shows that continue to run and shows like this never last (when it is the true reality)
I thought the story was interesting and relevant and the cast great. Criminal Minds meets The Good Wife. ADD is effecting all we do. ABC couldn’t market the show and build a base immediately so they jump ship before the audience heard of it or had a chance to see it. Such waste in a sea of crap shows. I really wanted to see where it was going!
