The Family stars Joan Allen stars as Claire Warren, Alison Pill as Willa Warren, Rupert Graves as John Warren, and Zach Gilford as Danny Warren. Margot Bingham is Detective Nina Meyer. Liam James is Ben/Adam Warren. Andrew McCarthy is Hank Asher. Floriana Lima is Bridey Cruz. Young Willa and Danny are played by Madeleine Arthur and Rarmian Newton.

Claire finally realizes what Adam and Ben endured when she visits the hell hole-like tomb where they were kept, exploding with grief, anger and frustration. Meanwhile Jane looks to make a getaway as Nina closes in on Doug’s location, and Agent Clements’ time is running out. Hank comes face to face with his inner demons, and one phone call shatters Ben’s world, forcing him to tackle an uncertain destiny.

The Family was canceled due to low ratings. As of the May 8th episode, the series averaged 0.83 in the 18-49 year-old viewer demographic and drew an average total audience of 3.276 million viewers. We have been tracking 25 scripted ABC series during the 2015-16 television season. Those numbers leave The Family ranked 21st out of 25, when sorted by both the demo and total average audience.

ABC cancelled The Family on Thursday, May 12, 2016, so this first season finale was not written as an intentional TV series finale. If the audience will get sufficient closure or satisfaction from “What Took So Long,” remains to be seen.

I cannot believe a show such as The Family would not be renewed. This show is a great one, something that doesn’t come along too often. It made you think, question and certainly tune in the next week. ABC, please reconsider. Remember Seinfeld didn’t have a following at first and was almost never seen by millions! Each episode drew you in and the Season Finale was the best one by far. Thank you Jenna Bans and all the writers for a job very well done!
Ahhhhhhhh! This show was soooo good….. We were all watching it at my workplace and what a cliffhanger at the end! Please abc, reconsider!!!
I couldn’t believe they cancelled The Family. I love watching this show. Had me a caught up on this series just to take it away. It’s not fair. It’s more story lines to come. I want to see what happens. Adam is a live all this time. Please bring it back. Just change the day. Air it on Friday

I can’t believe The Family has been cancelled. This was one of the best shows on tv! You never knew what was going to happen. I just watched the final show (which I didn’t know was the finale) and couldn’t wait to see the next episode. Then I saw this. I hope they will consider and bring back The Family!!
I need closure!! Why would you cancel this show! I hate the realty shows there are way to many of them out there anyway. ABC you suck!!

I was telling all my friends about this and got them all hooked. I loved all the twists to it. I dont think that it got all the publicity it should of to push people to watch it. I recorded it and starting watching it after the 4th episode was recorded. And that was by fluke to actually start watching it. Most of my other shows were on spring break. We love the family and are so disappointed to hear it has been canceled. It seems all the good shows get canceled and junk stays on. We were not satisfied with the end, it left us with more questions.

I think it should be renewed. It was very interesting and made you want to come back to see more. Now they left everyone hanging. Why don they cancel the reality shows that ar so stupid.
The least they could do would be to have an hour special giving us closure. Clearly the show wasn’t slated to be cancelled when the last episode was shot and aired. Bad mistake and makes viewers cynical for future shows. Who wants to embrace a new show only to invest multiple weeks and be left hanging? I won’t be chummed into getting attached and burned again. It wasn’t the show’s fault, it had Good Wife as competition. That just doesn’t even count! I will stick with Lifetime movies rather than be burned by bad network decisions resulting in viewer loyalty… Read more »
Totally agree! What the heck ? This show was brilliant!! I loved it and , just like that, it’s cancelled. Pathetic
Now that the Good Wife is no more. The rating would have went up.
