Claire finally realizes what Adam and Ben endured when she visits the hell hole-like tomb where they were kept, exploding with grief, anger and frustration. Meanwhile Jane looks to make a getaway as Nina closes in on Doug’s location, and Agent Clements’ time is running out. Hank comes face to face with his inner demons, and one phone call shatters Ben’s world, forcing him to tackle an uncertain destiny.

The Family was canceled due to low ratings. As of the May 8th episode, the series averaged 0.83 in the 18-49 year-old viewer demographic and drew an average total audience of 3.276 million viewers. We have been tracking 25 scripted ABC series during the 2015-16 television season. Those numbers leave The Family ranked 21st out of 25, when sorted by both the demo and total average audience.

ABC cancelled The Family on Thursday, May 12, 2016, so this first season finale was not written as an intentional TV series finale. If the audience will get sufficient closure or satisfaction from “What Took So Long,” remains to be seen.

I can not believe this show was cancelled. It started a little slow but then grabbed my interest. Completely disappointment!! BRING IT BACK!!
Truly disappointed about the cancellation. I had no idea I was watching the very last episode and was looking forward to the continuation. Acting was superb, story kept me interested and waiting for the following episode. Please bring it back!
This is beyond disappointing. This show has held my interest and my curiosity for a whole season. And now, you cancel it with all the hanging story threads. At least do one more show to wrap everything up!! I think your loyal viewers have earned that. Please? We want to see this broken mother get her son back!!!!
They are idiots if they cancel this show! It’s brilliant! The acting is amazing. The writing is superb! If they insist on cancelling it, I hope another network or streaming service picks it up. I am deeply disappointed in ABC, especially considering that most of their shows are insipid sitcoms or reality shows. Even Grey’s Anatomy is wearing out its welcome.

This cancellation was devastating. I watch very little TV, I prefer reading but this show had me hooked from the first episode. Smart, clever, GREAT talent and on the edge of your seat, finger biting, pure JOY!
ABC should be proud and stand behind this show. Market it for summer reruns in a good position and you have a solid 3 years, AT LEAST.

I would love to see ABC reconsider cancellation of this show! It was just getting to the good part on the May 15th episode with the re-appearance of the real Adam!! PLEASE don’t leave us hanging.
Please leave the show on everyone here is right how can they cancel when it hasn’t even been 2 month or a year the characters feel real good with there story lines and they give characters to life please don’t cancel the family is terrible they have to cancel a good mystery

Very upset that ABC is cancelling such a great show. The Family gave me something intriguing to watch on instead of all the unintelligent reality shows that dominate the television waves. This show is original and had its twists and turns that kept me eager for the next episode. There is a lot of life left in this series and I pray that another network will renew for a second season.
This is so frustrating. Not everyone wants smut reality tv. Real blank of blank is NOT wanted by EVERYONE. My question is how do you do ratings? Based on if people watch right when aired? Because LIFE happens. People DVRnir they watch the next day on Hulu. Is that considered? This was an awesome show that you’ve pulled. It’s what you do and maybe I just need to pull the plug on your network so that I don’t keep getting hooked on shows only for you to cancel.
Totally agree with all comments,it was a very intreging program and had u wanting you to come back for more each week.The suspence was ultimate leaving the watcher with a total adreniline rush! I would hope that ABC would take serious time in reinstating this AWSOME program for the upcoming fall! IF not then maybe someone will write a book so at least the viewers would have some closure!!!!!!!!!
