After two seasons on the air, CBS has pulled the plug on their Wednesday night sitcom, Gary Unmarried. The TV show won’t be back in the fall for season three.
Gary Unmarried revolves around a newly-divorced house-painter and dad, Gary Brooks (Jay Mohr), who’s readjusting to the single life. Others in the cast include Paula Marshall, Ryan Malgarini, Kathryn Newton, Keegan-Michael Key, and Brooke D’Orsay.
The sitcom debuted in September of 2008 to a mediocre 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.84 million viewers. The first season’s 20 episodes ended up averaging a 2.2 in the demo and 7.06 million viewers.
Those numbers put Gary Unmarried on the bubble for renewal. It ultimately escaped cancellation, likely because CBS co-produces the sitcom and decided to keep trying to make the Wednesday night comedy block work.
This season, the show’s ratings didn’t improve, averaging a 2.2 in the demo and 6.8 million viewers.
That wasn’t good enough to earn a renewal this time around and CBS has cancelled the series after 37 episodes. The network has also canned The New Adventures of Old Christine and Accidentally on Purpose.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Gary Unmarried’s been cancelled, that there won’t be a third season?

I just found out that you are canceling Gary Unmarried. What is going on with CBS? How many viewers have to watch a sitcom for it to stay on television? Personally, I think there are too many reality shows on tv. What happen to a nice sitcom for the whole family to watch instead of Big Brother or Survivor?
It is sad that CBS cant see the value in the show. It was good clean entertainment for the whole family. Reality shows suck. Real TV just as bad. Action and drama are for selected audiences. Come on CBS, bring Gary back!!!!! At least give the show a chance to finish off the series with a good ending. Who wants to buy a collection of a series which only have 2 seasons? Honestly, you missing out on a great oppertunity.
Gary, 2 1/2 men, Big Bang, & Rules of engagment are my 4 favorite shows! oh well, 3 out 4 aint bad!
Loved this show. VERY Sad its canceled. PLEASE bring it back!
I agree, too many reality shows take over and it was refreshing to watch a sitcom. This one was laugh out loud like Two and Half Men. They need to bring it back.
sooo sad! i love this show, wish we were getting a 3rd season =(
I just can’t believe that you cancelled Gary Unmarried and The New Adventures of Old Christine. With very few excellent TV comedies to watch any more, I am very disappointed. Please reconsider. Reality TV is alright, but sitcoms, are something to watch for laid back entertainment. No real drama, just fun. BRING THEM BACK!!
I have never ever laughed out loud sitting for myself watching a serie… Until I started watching Gary unmarried.
It is simply just hillarious.
Its a real shame to cancel a show like this.
^^^ exactly what he said ^^^
Good show. What’s up with that.
I looked forward to wed every week with new adventures and gary unmarried. I really don’t think the networks know whats funny, these two were the best.
You gotta be kidding. I’m a black dude and I can relate to that show. I still got my DVR set to record the show. I loved that show. It reminds me of Home Improvement. A real man’s comedy show. You gotta bring it back.
That show was hilarious! I have a 5 year old and a 3 year old so I don’t have a lot of time for television, but I made sure I never missed Gary Unmarried. I think it was a huge mistake to cancel this show!
My wife and I thought it was one of the funniest shows on television…Every week we would make sure we were home to watch….I think you messed up…
it made my wednesdays
it was the funniest show on television
