Officer Walter Clark’s story has been cut short. CBS has cancelled Golden Boy after one season and 13 episodes.
Airing on Tuesday nights, Golden Boy tells the tale of a young and ambitious New York cop (Theo James) who rises quickly through the department’s ranks to become the youngest Police Commissioner in NYC history. The cast also includes Chi McBride, Kevin Alejandro, Bonnie Somerville, Holt McCallany, and Stella Maeve.
The network was hoping that Golden Boy would perform better than Vegas — and for awhile, it looked like it might. Unfortunately, Golden Boy’s ratings ended up being pretty bad, particularly in the 18-49 demographic.
The episodes that have aired so far have averaged a 1.4 in the demo with 8.3 million total viewers. It’s one of the lowest-rated shows on the network.
The last episode, titled “Next Question,” will air next Tuesday night.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Golden Boy has been cancelled? What would you have liked to see in season two?
CBS is making the wrong decision by letting this show go. It had potential to be really amazing. Chi McBride is awesome. The show is well written and I could see attempts by the writers to create an intricate story line(s).
P.s. It’s tacky to leave in the middle of a story, CBS.
I wish CBS would reconsider! This is one of my favorite shows!
I’m certain that changing this show from Friday to Tuesday hurt its ratings. CBS really should consider not cancelling this quality show and putting it back on Fridays nights airing before Blue Bloods. What a powerful cop drama filled evening of television that would be! Golden Boy deserves to be judged based on its quality storyline and fantastic acting…not merely on ratings. It certainly merits being picked up for a second season and us devout viewers deserve not to be left in the lurch.
Please renew this show! It’s one of our family favorites, some of the best acting talent and a compelling story.
Golden Boy had well-thought-out and captivating episodes. So naturally CBS cancels it after the series gets our rapt weekly anticipation. It’s a numbers game and our opinions don’t count.
PLEASE DON’T CANCEL THIS SHOW !!!!!!!!! This show was just getting started. I wanted to see this show next season. PLEASE !!!!!!!!
BIGGEST MISTAKE OF CBS HISTORY. PERIOD. Everyone
who watched that show loved it & was spreading the word!
Are you crazy!!!! FINALLY we get substantual show & you. Before
ancel it??!!!
You should have moved it to Friday as you planned to air
before Blue Bloods as you did only ONE time. That was the most
compelling night of TV on CBS ever!!! You didn’t even give it
a chance!!! Who is running your network??? They made a
horrific decision!
I love the show, please don’t cancel.
WHY THE HELL DO U CRAZY PEOPLE CANCELL ALL THE GREAT SHOWS AND LEAVE CRAPPY ONES ON TV. IF U CANCELL THESE SHOWS THAT I ENJOY WATCHING I WILL STOP WATCHING YOUR NETWORK ALL TOGETHER !!!! THERE R ALOT OF US WHO DO ENJOY THIS SHOW AND TO ONLY GIVE IT ONE SEASON AND NOT A CHANCE TO CATCH ON Y’ALL R MORE STUPID THAN WE FIRST THOUGHT. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can’t believe that any network does good by its viewers by creating a series that needs a closing and then just cancels it! How does Chi McBride’s character die? What happened to our Golden Boy on his way to the top? What about his marriage? His sister, mother and father? I understand the need to cancel programs that do not pull in the big bucks, but one sure way to send viewers looking for new programs from another network is to get a few million people hooked on a story and cut it off without closure. This was not… Read more »
What a mistake, best show on television! I have been watching everyweek in anticipation of the mystery at the end. This is why nobody bothers with shows on CBS!
I’m very disappointed this show was canceled. I loved this show and was looking forward to future seasons. I agree they should have got the viewers opinions first and possibly switching the day or time slot would have helped.
Golden Boy is a show with a great story, and a self-evolving story line that could have kept the show fresh and current. I was looking forward to the evolution of his role and the transition to commissioner.
AMAZING — Really good TV Shows like this one get cancelled and crap “reality”shows like “Celebrity Apprentice” (Does ANYone really believe this is not scripted??) can somehow stay on the air. And networks wonder why it is so hard to keep viewers…….
