Will Goliath have a second season? Recently, creator David E. Kelley spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about the future of the Amazon series.
From David E. Kelley, the legal drama stars Billy Bob Thornton as Billy McBride, a washed up lawyer who takes on the major corporate firm he helped create. The cast also includes Maria Bello, William Hurt, Olivia Thirlby, Sarah Wynter, and Molly Parker.
In the interview, Kelley said he’s okay with the show only running one season:
Well, we originally thought three years, that would be great. It could go more; it could go less. But if we were told, “OK, you can only have one year, here’s the deal, one year and one year only,” that would have been fine with us. We had a story to tell over eight episodes, and we wanted to tell it and if that gives rise to year two — and we certainly hope it does because we have another to tell behind it — that’s great. As television has evolved, I think one of the great positives is that the short form is flourishing. I just did a one-off seven-hour series for HBO [Big Little Lies], we did this [over] eight hours on Amazon. And they both conceivably can go to year two or year three, but if it’s only year one, there’s closure at the end of them and I think it has currency and value even as a one-year project. And we’re seeing more of that on both cable and streaming things. Shows don’t have to be designed to run in perpetuity. If there’s a show that’s viable for one season or two seasons or three seasons, those stories are worth telling too.”
That being said, he also mentioned there is a plan for season two:
It would definitely be a new case. There are other cases that come behind it. So if we’re lucky, we’ll get to go on to year two.”
What do you think? Have you seen Goliath yet? Would you like a second season?
Now that we are addicted please don’t make us go cold turkey! More Billy Bob and crew.
Absolutely “Yes” to a 2nd season. David Kelley is brilliant & Goliath was outstanding. I love that the story was brought to a conclusion. It’s like reading a good book, knowing there are sequels in the series. Novelists have been doing this for years. Starz network is experimenting with Diana Gabaldan’s ‘Outlander’ series & it is a huge success.
Absolutely yes to a second season!! David Kelley is a brilliant writer & the actors chosen for the characters in Goliath are outstanding. Who couldn’t love them, even the ones you want to hate.
Unbelievably suspenseful and we’ll acted. I can’t even begin to pick my favorite character since every actor and actress is phenomenal! I must admit that Billy Bob Thornton is outstanding, dark, intellectual, and cohesive all at the same time. But there are so many other great characters played by other great actors and actresses that this first season needs the compliment of subsequent episodes. I can’t think of anyone who would turn the channel while this series is available to watch on Amozon. Restore my faith in real entertainment and let season 2 begin as soon as possible.
Season 1 is/was terrific. Let’s have another season.
Had to warm up to this show, but I am glad that I stuck with it. I gets better with each episode. Besides, who would love a big second helping of Billy Bob Thorton. Love that guy, so yes, give us a second season.
We love this show! We just finished binge watching the first season and hope there are more. Perfectly cast and wonderfully acted, the classic story line keeps you pulling for the underdog. Can tv/ streaming get any better?
A great show. Want season two, but don’t wait too long.
Loved it keep going
This is in the top three series I have ever seen…I am 70 years old so I have seen a few!
I enjoyed this series. Would love 3 more yrs! Billy did an outstanding job. Bummed when I saw might be cancelled.. hope its a keeper!
Yes please renew. Amazing storytelling and superb cast
Yes. I enjoyed all of the characters and the feeling of what now. Hope it can go through another 8 episodes with a new case.
Please don’t stop now. Why when this is so great. Bive us a break. We show our love and then you cancel??? Is that the way to treat adoring fans?
Arresting story-telling: thank you. I now have a far greater appreciation of Mr. Thornton as a thespian, and so hope you tell us another tale!
