Last week, NBC unveiled their newest legal drama series, Harry’s Law. Interestingly, this isn’t a new Law & Order spin-off but rather the brainchild of David E. Kelley who created shows like ABC’s Boston Legal. He also worked on NBC’s popular LA Law many years ago. Will this legal series last as long as those or be quickly cancelled instead?
Harry’s Law revolves around Harriet “Harry” Korn (Kathy Bates), a curmudgeonly ex-patent lawyer. She’s abruptly fired from her blue chip law firm, forcing her to search for a fresh start. Harry finds it when she meets Malcolm Davies (Aml Ameen), a college student who desperately needs her help and ends up working for her. A young legal hotshot named Adam Branch (Nate Corddry) accidentally hits her and gives up his corporate job to join the team. With the help of Harry’s shoe-obsessed assistant, Jenna (Brittany Snow), they open for business as Harriet’s Law and Fine Shoes.
The TV series debuted last Monday and it attracted an okay 2.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 11.07 million viewers. It ranked in second place for the timeslot though probably would have been third if Castle had not been a repeat. Though that’s not a great debut, it’s a 47% improvement over Chase’s last original episode in the same timeslot. That’s very positive for NBC.

Last night’s episode of Harry’s Law drew a 2.1 in the demo and 10.43 million viewers. That’s a loss of about 5% in the demo from the premiere but still positive since most shows lose between 10 and 15% of their viewership in week two. Most people who watched last week obviously liked it and returned and perhaps even told a friend or two.
After just two airings, Harry’s Law ranks in sixth place on the list of NBC’s most-watched scripted programs, just below 30 Rock. That’s very positive, especially considering NBC’s string of bad luck in the Mondays at 10pm timeslot. If the series can sustain or even build on these early numbers, it looks certain that NBC will renew it for season two.
But, what do you think? Do you like Harry’s Law? Do you think NBC should keep it going or just cancel it? What do you like or dislike about the new series?

Keep it! Great show. Kathy Bates is really great and she does well with David Kelly’s humor. I think this show has real potential. Keep it!
keep it. Great show in a demographic that gets very little airtime.
Tuned in both weeks because I’m a huge Bates fan (also Kelly’s). However, two not-guilty verdicts, two weeks in a row, for what should have been guilty ones is already a bit much and hopefully not a prelude to future episodes. Harry’s arguments in defense of these two guilty people, as philosophically and even morally correct as it may be, and beautifully delivered by Bates, did little, especially in last night’s episode, to address, at a minium, the equitable treatment of the victim. With the writers not having the victim asking to drop the charges or at least ask the… Read more »
The first verdict was actually guilty, the judge just suspended the two-year sentence in favor of rehab.
love it! please keep it! did expect Harry to be a little more sassy/sarcastic from the previews, but still loved it. def a keeper!
My neighbors and I watched the two shows which aired last week and this. We liked the humor and found the acting refreshing. We especially liked Nate Corddry as the partner for Harry. He has an appealing sense of humor and his acting was right on!
I love Kathy Bates and want to love the show, but midway into each episode the preaching begins and they loose me. Hope they get over themselves because this could be a goomd show
I loved it!!!! The show is the typical David Kelley humor. It’s great. The cast is great! Sure the show may be off for some people, but the underlying story line is what the story is about. It’s entertaining, that is what a TV program is suppose to do entertain. It’s in the perfect time slot for the language used to get the points across. The script pulls no punches and deals with the reality of the times. It’s a great show!!! I will be a fan until the end!!!
I say cancel it. I was so disappointed. David E. Kelley appears to have run out of steam. It’s an incredible waste of Kathy Bates’ talent.
I admit – I watched Castle, but I love Harry’s Law and just wish it was on Tuesday or Wednesday when there isn’t much else to watch. I say KEEP IT, but Move it to another night.
KEEP IT!!! I have not laughed that hard in a long time. The show has just the right mix of comedy with it’s serious storylines. The cast is wonderful, and this show has the makings of a “Law & Order” style run if they let it. If they keep canceling or even questioning and changing shows like this, there will be no reason to watch tv in the very near future.
Please keep it!
Great potential, but way too political.
I enjoyed Harry’s Law. It was a nice take on the lawyer/shoe store think, but don’t let it become a political statement. We all know there is poverty in the world and in our own country. The health care bill shouldn’t be debated on nat’l tv through the programing we decide to watch on tv. Be careful turning people off with this kind of dialog because we get that on the local news.
I love the show. I think it is an interesting perspective and Kathy Bates does well in her role, although a bit more “bland” than usual.
KEEP IT!
