Last week, NBC unveiled their newest legal drama series, Harry’s Law. Interestingly, this isn’t a new Law & Order spin-off but rather the brainchild of David E. Kelley who created shows like ABC’s Boston Legal. He also worked on NBC’s popular LA Law many years ago. Will this legal series last as long as those or be quickly cancelled instead?
Harry’s Law revolves around Harriet “Harry” Korn (Kathy Bates), a curmudgeonly ex-patent lawyer. She’s abruptly fired from her blue chip law firm, forcing her to search for a fresh start. Harry finds it when she meets Malcolm Davies (Aml Ameen), a college student who desperately needs her help and ends up working for her. A young legal hotshot named Adam Branch (Nate Corddry) accidentally hits her and gives up his corporate job to join the team. With the help of Harry’s shoe-obsessed assistant, Jenna (Brittany Snow), they open for business as Harriet’s Law and Fine Shoes.
The TV series debuted last Monday and it attracted an okay 2.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 11.07 million viewers. It ranked in second place for the timeslot though probably would have been third if Castle had not been a repeat. Though that’s not a great debut, it’s a 47% improvement over Chase’s last original episode in the same timeslot. That’s very positive for NBC.

Last night’s episode of Harry’s Law drew a 2.1 in the demo and 10.43 million viewers. That’s a loss of about 5% in the demo from the premiere but still positive since most shows lose between 10 and 15% of their viewership in week two. Most people who watched last week obviously liked it and returned and perhaps even told a friend or two.
After just two airings, Harry’s Law ranks in sixth place on the list of NBC’s most-watched scripted programs, just below 30 Rock. That’s very positive, especially considering NBC’s string of bad luck in the Mondays at 10pm timeslot. If the series can sustain or even build on these early numbers, it looks certain that NBC will renew it for season two.
But, what do you think? Do you like Harry’s Law? Do you think NBC should keep it going or just cancel it? What do you like or dislike about the new series?

It’s NBC, of course they should keep it, any show doing over 2.0 in the 18-49 demo is a keeper for this network. Not a bad show either.
I sat thru 2 episodes. Tired of being the captive audience for liberal-progressive ideology. It wasn’t even real or possible legally. Cancel the show. Too bad. Great idea but zero entertainment.
I reserved my comments until after watching the second episode. I find “Harry’s Law” to be enjoyable all around. I think the positive social message is refreshing in a climate of TV writing which glamorizes the flaws of our American character: it reminds me of television writing of the ’80’s during the push to use TV as a vehicle for positive influence. Reading other viewer comments I see viewers thinking the show too political. I believe those viewers are wrong. The show isn’t spotlighting policy or government, but the responsibility we each have as members of our communities to not… Read more »
Keep it. They got DR. Romano as a lawyer. What’s not to like? Kathy Bates is also good, and the chick from John Tucker must die is pretty funny too. I hope they don’t cancel.
If the show was pushing more conservative agendas, I bet the above nay-sayers would be praising its “moral value.” I find the show funny, enjoyable, and fresh. I can’t wait for next week’s episode.
I enjoyed the show very much. It was wonderful not having vulgar speech and terrible violence, the absents of it was refreshing and the humor was also. I’m happy that there is finally something good to watch.
love the show, Kathy Bates is great, I really really hope you keep the show for a long time and not cut it. I like the whole concept of it.
Started watching the pilot last week…
a few seconds in, I said “This feels quirky… this feels like… like… David E. Kelly”
A minute after that it said “Executive Producer: David E. Kelly”.
I grinned. Oh and I thought it was great too. Keep!
Great show and I love Kathy Bates character. I will watch this show every week as long as it airs!!
Kathy Bates is amazing. I would watch anything with her in it. Fortunately the writing is good too. Keep it!
Cancel it. What could have been a good program is nothing more than yet another liberal platform. I watched two episodes and that is all I will ever watch.
Leave your polotics out of entertainment!!!! We don’t care what you think!!
Cancel it. Its ridiculous. Responsibility of our actions lies with us – not our government. If the show wants to awaken someone’s conscious, they should awaken the viewers. How many viewers sat there and felt the government should help the old lady buy food and how many actually picked up the phone and donated time and food to their local Meals on Wheels. Our actions as a community are stronger than any actions our government can do. Also, I wonder how many people would have felt sorry for the old lady if they were the person that had the LOADED… Read more »
DEFINITELY KEEP IT. It’s witty, charming, and I love Kathy Bates. Brittany Snow’s shoe sales are hilarious. Such a diverse group of characters. It’s fantastic!
Keep it – we need a little dose of responsible politics to bring this country back to its previous conciousness!
I would like to see a little less politics on this show. Love the cast and story line.
