Last week, NBC unveiled their newest legal drama series, Harry’s Law. Interestingly, this isn’t a new Law & Order spin-off but rather the brainchild of David E. Kelley who created shows like ABC’s Boston Legal. He also worked on NBC’s popular LA Law many years ago. Will this legal series last as long as those or be quickly cancelled instead?
Harry’s Law revolves around Harriet “Harry” Korn (Kathy Bates), a curmudgeonly ex-patent lawyer. She’s abruptly fired from her blue chip law firm, forcing her to search for a fresh start. Harry finds it when she meets Malcolm Davies (Aml Ameen), a college student who desperately needs her help and ends up working for her. A young legal hotshot named Adam Branch (Nate Corddry) accidentally hits her and gives up his corporate job to join the team. With the help of Harry’s shoe-obsessed assistant, Jenna (Brittany Snow), they open for business as Harriet’s Law and Fine Shoes.
The TV series debuted last Monday and it attracted an okay 2.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 11.07 million viewers. It ranked in second place for the timeslot though probably would have been third if Castle had not been a repeat. Though that’s not a great debut, it’s a 47% improvement over Chase’s last original episode in the same timeslot. That’s very positive for NBC.

Last night’s episode of Harry’s Law drew a 2.1 in the demo and 10.43 million viewers. That’s a loss of about 5% in the demo from the premiere but still positive since most shows lose between 10 and 15% of their viewership in week two. Most people who watched last week obviously liked it and returned and perhaps even told a friend or two.
After just two airings, Harry’s Law ranks in sixth place on the list of NBC’s most-watched scripted programs, just below 30 Rock. That’s very positive, especially considering NBC’s string of bad luck in the Mondays at 10pm timeslot. If the series can sustain or even build on these early numbers, it looks certain that NBC will renew it for season two.

Love this show! My husband & I watch it after taping it (zip through the commercials). Kathy Bates is one of our favorite actresses. Can’t stand Brittany Snow’s character!! Aml Ameen needs more to do than just hang around the shop! But, please do not cancel this show!!!!

Everytime a good show comes on TV they cancel it, but they keep stupid shows on like the Simpsons, the Office,Chase, the list goes on and on………..
Absolutely keep this show. Just checked article on shows being renewed and those on the “bubble” – couldn’t believe my eyes when I see NBC has renewed Two and a Half Men and put Harry’s Law on the bubble…….good grief – get a brain NBC!

This show is refreshing and smart and funny. Kathy Bates is the only starring women television characters with grey hair on TV… its high time and I think she’s a class act in every way. The rest of the cast is eccentric and talented, the stories are interesting and my husband and I wait for it every week. To cancel would be a shame…its wonderful.
Harry’s Law is fantastic. Please bring it back. It is equal to Boston Legal and we loved this show also. You have a good thing now don’t screw it up. Thank you.

Keep it! David Kelly writes for people with brains and a sense of humor. This show is for the older crowd who has been around the block a few times, and “gets” the message. My friends and I discuss the issues of the show every week. I can’t say that about any other show on the air right now.

Definitely a keeper! I watch all kinds of things like chuck, burn notice, the event, the CSI’s fairly legal, and a bunch of other good ones… This one is also one of the shows that I look forward to watching Very much every week…. FYI- I’m a 27 year old male from the Midwest, not some loser 80 year lady who sits around watching tv 24/7….haha… Just thought I’d give ya a tid bit background……:)
Please keep Harrys Law. I love this show. Originaly I watched because of Kathy Bates. I have found I like all of the odd characters in the show equaly. I think she plays her character well and I would hate to see the show canceled. Fox is nortorious for canceling shows before they get a fair shake. Please do not become a network that does not listen to the viewers. I really think this is the best show on TV right now!
