Last week, NBC unveiled their newest legal drama series, Harry’s Law. Interestingly, this isn’t a new Law & Order spin-off but rather the brainchild of David E. Kelley who created shows like ABC’s Boston Legal. He also worked on NBC’s popular LA Law many years ago. Will this legal series last as long as those or be quickly cancelled instead?
Harry’s Law revolves around Harriet “Harry” Korn (Kathy Bates), a curmudgeonly ex-patent lawyer. She’s abruptly fired from her blue chip law firm, forcing her to search for a fresh start. Harry finds it when she meets Malcolm Davies (Aml Ameen), a college student who desperately needs her help and ends up working for her. A young legal hotshot named Adam Branch (Nate Corddry) accidentally hits her and gives up his corporate job to join the team. With the help of Harry’s shoe-obsessed assistant, Jenna (Brittany Snow), they open for business as Harriet’s Law and Fine Shoes.
The TV series debuted last Monday and it attracted an okay 2.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 11.07 million viewers. It ranked in second place for the timeslot though probably would have been third if Castle had not been a repeat. Though that’s not a great debut, it’s a 47% improvement over Chase’s last original episode in the same timeslot. That’s very positive for NBC.

Last night’s episode of Harry’s Law drew a 2.1 in the demo and 10.43 million viewers. That’s a loss of about 5% in the demo from the premiere but still positive since most shows lose between 10 and 15% of their viewership in week two. Most people who watched last week obviously liked it and returned and perhaps even told a friend or two.
After just two airings, Harry’s Law ranks in sixth place on the list of NBC’s most-watched scripted programs, just below 30 Rock. That’s very positive, especially considering NBC’s string of bad luck in the Mondays at 10pm timeslot. If the series can sustain or even build on these early numbers, it looks certain that NBC will renew it for season two.
But, what do you think? Do you like Harry’s Law? Do you think NBC should keep it going or just cancel it? What do you like or dislike about the new series?

Harry’s Law is a Great Watch! Every show has the sharp intelligence and fantastic comedy that only Kathy Bates can deliver. The show always leaves me in a “feel good” frame of mind.
My wife and I enjoy Harry’s Law. When there not much worth watching on TV if your not in to reality shows. Who came up with that name? What’s real about these boring show that mimic the one that was on last season. Harry’s Law is a refreshing change in TV’s venue of overpaid egotist that think acting is being an arrogant fool.
We Love Harrys Law! Harriette has the best court room drama lines and she delivers with profound power & humility.. We love you Kathy Bates!
best show on TV but never listed in my Toronto Star TV guide. Why?
An excellent, smart, and well crafted show, I hope it returns for another season.
Harry’s Law has Kathy Bates as well as a very interesting cast of other characters. there is a lot of droll humor and biting sarcasm but when Harry get to court she is masterful. I like this show. It is not great but it is very good and you never know what is going to happen unlike other shows which are so predictable. Keep it on the air. please! It is fun and frankly, as a retiree I find very little on TV that interests me. SVU House, and The Good Wife are wonderful and it is nice to have… Read more »
This is a great show. Worthy of a person’s time. Kathy is wonderful as always.
The stories are new and refreshing. The cast seems to work well together their relationships are enjoyable.
I like a show that is NOT an insult to one’s intelligence.
And I did not miss the car chases, the destruction, or the blood.
We are looking forward to many seasons.
Congratulations to the writers.
I Think Harry’sLaw is terrific. My parents turned me on to it. I never miss it. We live in Dayton, Ohio, and I have lived and spent a great deal of time in Cincinnati. The exterior shots of the city are spot on. I will be extremely disappointed if NBC cancels this show. As a 63-year old conservative, I am not very fond of NBC News or MSNBC. Canceling Harry’s Law will make it a trifecta for me.
I totally love Harry’s Law, Kathy Bates is great! I love the other castmates as well. Please don’t cancel. I am sad it is not on now, I miss it a lot. This is a series of serious and fun. I love her humor that is added to the show. Please, Please do not cancel!!!
My husband and I love Harry’s Law! We hope it will continue for many more seasons! It is certainly a breath of fresh air without all of the violence that so many shows have now.
I love “Harry’s Law”! I like the format – informal, as opposed to Bones and NCIS, which are in more formalized settings. I also like the currency, and the compassionate handling of the plots. One of the best shows to come along in quite a while!
Great show and one that I program not to miss! I really like Cathy Bates and the rest of the cast. I especially enjoy the humor to the seriousness of the issues presented. Keep the shows coming…………..I’m ready for Season 2!
love love love Harry’s Law. want to see more…….
i think the show is great, the cast especially tommy jefferson, the whole cast real good mix, tone down the romance, ….i hope it goes another season !
Harry’s Law is FANTASTIC! A real breath of fresh air with extremely fabulous acting; the cast is superb…with Kathy Bates in the leading role what else can you expect. She is the best American actress alive, I follow all her movies and I am so glad she decided to be on the small screen so we can enjoy her talent every week.
I hope NBC doesn’t make the mistake to cancel this excellent show!!!
I love Kathy’s wardrobe and her elegance. Kudos to Kathy Bates for showing the middle age women can be elegant and chic!
The one and only reason we started watching network television again. We are VERY disappointed it’s not continueing. Please bring it back. Kathy Bates is so strong in that show … she’s a winner!
