Kathy Bates can officially turn down any pending movie offers. Her TV series, Harry’s Law, has been renewed for a second season by NBC.
Harry’s Law centers around Harriet “Harry” Korn (Kathy Bates), a cranky former patent lawyer. She’s forced to make a fresh start and ends up assembling an interesting new team; college student Malcolm Davies (Aml Ameen), legal hotshot Adam Branch (Nate Corddry), and a footwear-obsessed assistant named Jenna (Brittany Snow).
Debuting mid-season, the series started out decently with a 2.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 11.07 million viewers. While those aren’t great numbers, they are significantly better than the other shows that NBC has had in the Mondays at 10pm timeslot. Unfortunately, the ratings slid downward as the season progressed and the last original episode, on April 4th, registered just a 1.4 in the demo and 7.75 million viewers.
The season ended up averaging just a 1.8 in the demo and 9.39 million viewers. That’s just a bit more than NBC’s struggling (but now renewed) Chuck. So much for Harry’s Law being a hit.
While the demo numbers aren’t very good, the show does have the most viewers of any scripted series on the network. Total viewership isn’t nearly as important as the the demo ratings but having that many people watch and potentially talk about the show can help attract new demo viewers. Besides, NBC has a lot of other holes to fill on the 2011-12 schedule.
NBC will officially unveil the new 2011-12 schedule to advertisers on Monday but will give reporters a preview on Sunday. Be user to bookmark and visit our NBC cancel/renew page to keep up with the latest comings and goings.
What do you think? Are you glad that Harry’s Law will be back for season two? How would you attract more 18-49 viewers so season three will be a guarantee?

9pm time might attract more people
I’m thrilled to have her coming back.
I am age 60. not in your target group. I loved the show as did my husband , we rarely agree on tv programs so i was surprised when he said to tape it so he could see it when he got home from work. My neice started watching after I told her how much I liked it. We usually agree on programs and she stated mentioning it work. She works at a military post so she knows lots of people in your market group. Can’t wait for the first show!
OMG NBC sucks at renewing Harry’s Law I hope the network falls in financial disaster!
Love Harry’s law… age 16… keep it on! XD
HURRAY! I love the show and all of the characters. Thank goodness one of my favorite shows has been renewed.
We love this show! It is so rare these days to have a show for “grown ups” to watch. Forget the 18-49 demographic! Baby boomers are a strong demographic too and we are watching this show.
Love Harry’s Law………..age 62…………Keep it on!!!!!!!!!
Harry’s Law being renewed is great news! I wish you could put it in a different time slot as it is tough trying to watch both Harry’s Law and Castle at the same time. Usually the next day I bring up Harry’s Law on the computer and watch it again. I can’t miss Harry’s Law. Thanks for renewing it.
My husband and I really love the show; we would watch anything Kathy Bates is in and this format is a great one for her. Keep the show going for Season 3!
Shoe store lawyers I prefer to get my lawyers in bowling alleys.

Change the timeslot I guess. Bring Paul and Christopher in the main cast. Have Charlie Sheen guest star suing CBS? What? I thought it was funny.
Jeremy, LOVE your suggestion about C.S. That would be hysterical. Can’t you just hear Harry screaming at him…”WINNING !” Love the show. I’m 68 and am a LONG ways from the ‘demo group’, too, but I appreciate good programming as much as the ‘young uns’. I agree about changing the night or maybe the time. It’s in a hard slot opposite Hawaii Five-O on CBS. I love that show, too, so I watch Harry’s Law on the night and then watch the other one the next day on-line. Where there’s a will, there’s a way. Thank you, NBC, for renewing… Read more »
like the show lots
Yes, very much. Have it on an hour earlier in the evening. Advertise more too!
I loved Harry’s Law. I rushed home from work every Monday night to make sure I could see it. I was devestated when one Monday night it was not on. Although at 66 I do not fit your demographic profile, I can tell you there are few good shows worth watching anymore. This new show, along with Blue Bloods, Body of Proof and the Defenders (which is also not on anymore) are my favorites. Continuing shows of NCIS (Mark Harmon’s group), the Mentalist and Castle also are in my regular watching. Thank you for bringing back Harry’s Law and when… Read more »
