Kathy Bates can officially turn down any pending movie offers. Her TV series, Harry’s Law, has been renewed for a second season by NBC.
Harry’s Law centers around Harriet “Harry” Korn (Kathy Bates), a cranky former patent lawyer. She’s forced to make a fresh start and ends up assembling an interesting new team; college student Malcolm Davies (Aml Ameen), legal hotshot Adam Branch (Nate Corddry), and a footwear-obsessed assistant named Jenna (Brittany Snow).
Debuting mid-season, the series started out decently with a 2.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 11.07 million viewers. While those aren’t great numbers, they are significantly better than the other shows that NBC has had in the Mondays at 10pm timeslot. Unfortunately, the ratings slid downward as the season progressed and the last original episode, on April 4th, registered just a 1.4 in the demo and 7.75 million viewers.
The season ended up averaging just a 1.8 in the demo and 9.39 million viewers. That’s just a bit more than NBC’s struggling (but now renewed) Chuck. So much for Harry’s Law being a hit.
While the demo numbers aren’t very good, the show does have the most viewers of any scripted series on the network. Total viewership isn’t nearly as important as the the demo ratings but having that many people watch and potentially talk about the show can help attract new demo viewers. Besides, NBC has a lot of other holes to fill on the 2011-12 schedule.
NBC will officially unveil the new 2011-12 schedule to advertisers on Monday but will give reporters a preview on Sunday. Be user to bookmark and visit our NBC cancel/renew page to keep up with the latest comings and goings.
What do you think? Are you glad that Harry’s Law will be back for season two? How would you attract more 18-49 viewers so season three will be a guarantee?

I loved Hary’s Law!!! I’m glad to see that it is coming back for season 2. It is one of the best shows on TV. Given a chance, it will gain more viewers.
My husband & I really enjoy Harry’s Law. We hope it is on for many many years. Kathy Bates is one of my favorite actresses. She is great.
I am in my 80’s and made it a point to watch this show every week, but, I agree, it would be better if it was on at 9:00 p.m. I loved Kathy Bates in this role and am also glad to see a show more geared to the older generation instead of all the shows for young people. Hope it returns.
I am pleased it is coming back. I see only foolishness in targeting a particular age group. This show should target at least moderate intelligence with wit, wry humor and clever honesty. We’ve had enough of the shallow, stupid shows targeting young people. I believe even young people have had enough of the shallow, stupid shows. Please let Harry’s Law be different.
Well, I guess I don’t have to take my television to the dump after all! Love this show! It was the only one in that I actually made a point of watching. There are plenty of mind numbing programs for young people who might be easily entertained. This show is perfect just the way it is, so if anything, change the time slot.
I agree…an earlier time slot at 9:00 pm would be better for this wonderfully clever show. I’m so glad it’s coming back even though it’s in the 10:00 pm time slot
Prediction: Harry’s Law will be a great hit “IF” NBC provides the correct 9:00pm time slot. The writing is witty, comedic at times, and hits on serious subject matter. Kathy Bates is perfect in her role and the supporting cast became more and more interesting as their characters developed during the shows’ all too brief season.
In addition, please include baby boomers in your demographic. We also enjoy good, entertaining “scripted” TV !
I’m so glad harry’s Law is being renewed, it was my favorite show! Refreshing, creative, entertaining, and full of humor and heart! I never would have cast Kathy Bates in this part, and yet, when I started watching it, I decided she actually was the perfect cast for it! She’s wonderful! I love her! I also wish it was on at 9:00pm though.
I think this is one of the most unusual and entertaining series on TV. It has logic, humor and heart and I always feel like I learn something wonderful about human nature.
Glad to hear it will be renewed. It is a great show and I am big fan of Kathy Bates. I can’t wait for season 2.
We are so happy to see that Harry’s Law has been renewed!!!!!! Only thing is, wish it were on at 9:00 p.m. instead of 10:00 p.m. Bet it would do much better in that time slot. The show is a winner!!
Why are you asking for those in certain age limits to write in favor of this show??
How about those who appreciate her sense of whit, sarcasm and compassion? (any age)
Yes, keep this show on.
Don’t make it so contrived with the shoe store thing and the “blonde” secretary. Kathy Bates can carry the show well without the unrealistic characters.
Love Harrys Law. So happy to see it coming back, but where is it now? Such a short season;-( This show appears to be as entertaining as Boston Legal which I absolutely loved and sorely miss. My suggestion is to give it a better time slot. Hopefully as a lead-in at 8:00 but definitely not on a Tuesday. CBS has that day locked up. Wednesday or Thursday would be good. The shows I couldn’t miss this year were: Harrys Law, NCIS, Blue Bloods and The Amazing Race. All the rest were iffy if not a definite no. Note that except… Read more »
This is a great show. The humor and wit are exceptional. I told so many people to watch it and then it wasn’t on any more??? Never was a big fan of Kathy Bates but can’t get enough of her now! This is the best show I’ve watched in years. Has the best of everything – The characters are perfectly matched and the scenarios are so meaningful not to say the least-Hilarious. I’m not a big TV watcher but couldn’t wait each week for Harry’s Law.
