How will Hawaii Five-0 end? Executive producer Peter Lenkov recently spoke with TVInsider about the CBS series finale.
The reboot series, which follows an elite federalized task force whose mission is to wipe out crime on the Hawaiian Isles, is currently in its 10th and final season. The cast includes Alex O’Loughlin, Scott Caan, Ian Anthony Dale, Meaghan Rath, Beulah Koale, Chi McBride, Katrina Law, Taylor Wily, Dennis Chun, and Kimee Balmilero.
The series finale of Hawaii Five-0 premieres on CBS tonight, April 3rd, at 9 p.m. ET/PT. What can fans expect? In the interview, Lenkov revealed McGarrett (O’Loughlin) will have a happy ending:
When I found out that the show wasn’t coming back, I only had to do some minor tweaks because it really did feel like not just the ending for McGarrett but the ending of the series. I’d always imagined the task force would continue and I had always imagined that McGarrett’s happiness, his peace of mind would be the end game because he came to the Island with such trauma that I wanted him to be able to go off into the sunset with some kind of peace.”
Lenkov later said he hopes the audience will be satisfied with the ending of Hawaii Five-0:
The truth is I am certain that for me I think I did everything I wanted to do [on the show]. I’m sure for our audience, some of the audience, they’ll probably want more and that’s a good thing. But I really left it with feeling like I did everything that I set out to do. I feel really comfortable with the way the show ends.”
And will we ever see the Five-0 task force again? Lenkov said Magnum P.I. may bring on some familiar characters:
I feel very comfortable and confident that Magnum will come back [for its third season] so the plan is to keep the 5-0 task force alive. A lot of the actors that live there and we’ll try on a regular basis to bring them in and can keep it alive and keep the idea of Five-0 always on the periphery of our storyteller.”
What do you think? Do you watch Hawaii Five-0? How do you want the series to end?
I’m from the Ottawa, Canada area&my wife and I really like and enjoy the show, I think the 5-0 task force would take off with the remaining cast, time will tell, they portray a good part. And may be too much for Thomas Magnum to fit it in all of the case but maybe the PI could use the task force to help him and the 5-0 Task Force could spin off after helping Magnum, ckris w
I would like the cast of Hawaii Five-0 to have a new series. I really loved this show and think it would be great even without McGarrett. The supporting cast was great.
I loved Hawaii Five-O
I liked the original one as well, but think the new one was better..
Sure gonna miss it!!!!
Sure hope Magnum stays around a lot longer
This has been such an exciting, entertaining series. I watched the original series and had doubts that the renewed series would be anywhere nearly as good. It far surpassed my expectations and our family is sick that Hawaii 5-O is ending. The newer shows just do not have the same quality as Hawaii 5-O.
Loved this it is so good and entertaining and the characters and stories were great we looked forward every week for this show. You should be taking some of these awful shows that are supposed to be funny but aren’t off instead of the good ones.
Didn’t think I’d like it but became a fan. Sorry to see a decent & moral family show end. It was nice having a show to watch with the family. Didn’t have to worry about cussing, glorified bad guys, drug use or sleaziness. I guess it wasn’t abhorrent enough to maintain a spot.
was sad poor danny im gonna miss show wanted see where junior and girl gonna go hope they come to another show
I loved Hawaii-5-o from the beginning. Having spent time in Hawaii on vacation many years ago the scenes are a big part of the show for me. I can live each moment spent on the beaches and other areas of the “Heaven on Earth” that is Hawaii. Believe me, I also very much enjoy the story line. Speaking of Magnum PI it is another story I thoroughly enjoy. There is way too much empty time between one segment and another. It seems as soon as I discover when they will be on regularly, they are off again. I do not… Read more »
I watched every episode of the original growing up and have watched every episode of the new series. It is without a doubt my favorite! Please bring it back!
One of my favorite shows. Really will miss it!!! Any way to bring it back?
I don’t want it to end I will miss all the characters
Cried at the end especially when he said good bye to Eddie. Still sad and teary.
Also so sad when he said goodbye to Eddie. I also think they could do some movie like a couple of times a year
This is my favorite sow so I’m more than disappointed. I’m very sad!
I was heartbroken when I saw that this was the end of Hawaii 5-0. I’ve seen every episode more than once and have loved the cast (especially Steve) and the storylines. I sobbed the entire last 15 minutes. I feel like I just lost a second family. Please bring the series back. Please.
Very disappointed. The ensemble came together very well. Hoping cast can bleed over to Magnum
NOT HAPPY AT ALL. Hawaii 5-O is 100% the best show on CBS. For me , it is the best show in my repertoire and I wait and look forward to it every week. Although Alex will be terribly missed I feel the show can still continue with all the regulars and Danny stepping up as commander. The writers of this show have been able to keep up with nothing less than stellar story lines. Think about it guys, don’t leave us with just Blue Bloods on Friday nights!
I enjoyed the ending. i had suspected it would end with him catching up with his old love. Great ending.
I very much agree with these comments. We all look forward to our favorite shows being on regularly.
