After becoming an almost immediate hit for NBC in Fall of 2006, Heroes dropped significantly in the ratings over the past couple seasons. Fans have complained about the storylines but the TV show has been one of the network’s biggest draws in the 18-49 demographic. NBC has opted to cancel it anyway.
Heroes follows a group of ordinary humans who have developed extraordinary powers that end up affecting their lives in positive and negative ways. The series’ large ensemble cast includes Adrian Pasdar, Ali Larter, Cristine Rose, Greg Grunberg, Hayden Panettiere, Jack Coleman, James Kyson Lee, Masi Oka, Milo Ventimiglia, Robert Knepper, Sendhil Ramamurthy, and Zachary Quinto.
The network had reportedly been considering three options to wrap up Heroes — a 13 episode order for mid-season, an order of four to six episodes that could be aired over a couple nights in the fall, or to just cancel the series outright.
Though Heroes still brought NBC some its better 18-49 ratings this season, the numbers just can’t justify costs with a sizable cast and special effects budget. The network has a large selection of new hour-long dramas to choose from and so, has decided to cut Heroes.
On the bright side, NBC is supposedly working on a plan to wrap up the series. Right now, it sounds like there will be a two or four hour event that will air mid-season. The details will revealed at NBC’s upfront presentation on Monday morning.
Over the past day or so, Grunberg has been tweeting and hinting that “the fat lady” was getting ready to sing. As the news broke of Heroes’ cancellation, he wrote, “I’m hearing The FAT LADY singing her ass off!!! #Heroes = Cancelled! Sad. BUT… W/bad news comes GOOD!! My Next Tweet will explain!!” Three hours later, and Grunberg still hasn’t tweeted again.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Heroes has been cancelled or was it long overdue? Will you watch the wrap-up event, whenever or whatever it is?

I have been waiting, it seems like forever, for another season of Heros, only to find out
the show has been canceled. How can you leave the devoted fans hanging like that, wondering what is going to happen to all the “Heros”. I would hope they will do a final series, so we fans can go on not wondering when the show would air.
How can anyone be so stupid, great show=cancelled…. thanks guys for watching, but screw you… I rarely watched tv as it is, but i made it a point to catch Heroes and now its gone.. Dumb move i think, but thats the world we live in today, a world filled with dumb moves/people like this…
I am very dissapointed to hear that the show its been cancelled! I am like many, and avid watcher of the show that are porbably feeling the same way. I am of course, waiting and hopping for a wrap up of the show…I don’t care if it is half an hour or five hours, I’ll watch it! I want clousure!
I think this has to be the dumbest move ever! i watched every episode. How do you just stop in the middle of a season. You might as well just not make the final episode. Im to mad to even watch it or even support NBC.. BOOO on YOU!!
Ok we need to start a campaign right now to write letters upon letters to NBC; telling them how idiotic they are for canceling what was one of the most interesting shows on their lineup but nowadays if it isn’t bullcrap reality it gets canceled. Look at Kings it was by far the most compelling and well written show to come out the time it did but it got canceled to free up a slot for a reality show that itself got canceled later on. Also did the same thing happen to V because if so thats crap that show… Read more »
Well I think I would be happier with a few long night wrap ups of the show. I was a big fan, but ever since Peter lost his awesome ability the show has been going down hill for quite some time. So it will be nice to wrap it up while it still has some dignity left because I was afraid that it would lose that…
BOOOOO!
I am beside myself at the news of the cancellation of this show. We had a tradition on Monday nights: go to our friend’s and watch Chuck and Heroes. NBC cancelled Chuck but brought it back due to all the fan support from the Internet. How ’bout we try to get Heroes back on too? Otherwise goodbye NBC.
What the heck??? A great show with a huge fan base. Someone at NBC got a fat paycheck for cutting costs, not attracting viewership…
Boo Whhoooooo……….Loved the show and we were anticipating the beginning of the new season! Hoping they at least wrap it up with a final episode. TTFN
you definitley can’t leave us hanging you have to finish the story!
The Olymics killed it. The last two episodes were pre-empted by them and now we’ll never know why if we save the cheerleader we save the world. LOL
Thats NBC for you, that should explain a lot, they cancel everything.
I’ve been waiting with great anticipation for the next great season of Heroes to return only to find out that my favorite show has been canceled. Words cannot express how disappointed I am! I loved sitting at the edge of my seat each week watching Heroes. No other show will ever be able to replace what NBC along with the writers and cast of Heroes brought to us all. NBC should at least provide the dedicated fans of Heroes with a real “final” episode to end the series after all these years!!!
That really is not cool! We watch for this whole time and they axe the coolest show on! I hope another network will pick it up and go on and become the next Star Trek and have mass spin off shows! So if no mini movie or rap up show comes let us hope there are smart people out ther that can see easy money and that show was it! If the cost was so much why not look what is wrong and fix it not cancell! YOU KEPT CHUCK WTF…
