Well, there’s one dangerous situation that Christopher Chance can’t escape. FOX has cancelled Human Target after two seasons on the air. No season three.
Human Target follows a private bodyguard and security expert (Mark Valley) who protects his clients by integrating himself into their lives and becaomes a “human target.” He’s aided by his business partner, Winston (Chi McBride), and a tech genius named Guerrero (Jackie Earle Haley). In the second season, a former client (Indira Varma) becomes his benefactor and an expert thief (Janet Montgomery) joins the team to seek redemption.
The series debuted back in January 2010 to a positive 2.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 10.12 million total viewers. Subsequent episodes had some solid numbers (thanks in large part to American Idol) but the latter part of the season really declined. The season finale brought in a mere 1.9 rating and season one averaged a 2.9 rating and 9.6 million viewers.
The show was on the bubble for renewal last May but FOX ultimately decided to give the series a second chance to get better ratings. That didn’t pan out.

Last November, season two of Human Target debuted to a week 1.8 rating in the demo and 6.59 million viewers. The network kept it on through the holidays, the ratings got worse, and by January it seemed like they’d given up on the series. The final episodes of the season performed a bit better but, again, thanks to being teamed American Idol. Season two averaged a 1.7 demo rating and 6.4 million viewers.
As one of the network’s lowest scripted series of the season, it seemed like just a matter of time before FOX would cancel Human Target. Last night, they officially did. Despite some devout fans, Human Target just wasn’t a winner in the ratings. After 25 episodes, the show is over.
What do you think? Should Human Target have been renewed for season three? Why didn’t more people watch the TV series?

I love the show too and definitely think the scheduling had a LOT to do with its lower ratings. So many people who occasionally watched had a hard time keeping up when it was airing next. I also think it would do better on another network like USA or FX…do some research..wouldn’t cost that much to find out it have a loyal fan base.
HUMAN TARGET deserves a season three and 5 more!!!
This was the most unique character to come into our living rooms in years!!
It has a potential to leave behind a great legacy….a TV worthy of being made into a MOVIE…not many show on tv deserve that.
Chance was made for Mark Valley….that was his character and no one could have played that part.
Fox are Bullies
The problem with Human Target was that it rarely met its potential. The first half of the first season was quite good, creating abnormal situations and finding interesting ways to extricate the characters from them. As the first season ended (it was a pretty cool cliffhanger) and the second season began, it felt like either the writers didn’t have any more good ideas or the budget had been cut. The cool fight scene or stunt each week was generally cut out and the cast became “family friendly” with the inclusion of two relatively uninteresting characters. Target was best when it… Read more »
I am devistated! This show had sooooo much potential. When you move a new show around as much as Fox did how do you expect people to watch it every week, and keep an interest in the plot. Tv is missing the action adventure escapism, I am sick to death of so-called reality tv, and the criminal intents, bones ect, bring back entertainment! And someone please sack the fool that cancelled this awsome show
I’m disappointed over Fox’s decision to cancelled “Human Target” , it was a very good show, too bad for FOX because they’ve just lost me as a viewer.
Im so upset that Fox cancelled Human Target. That show was so well done. I am boycotting watching anything on Fox. There all jack asses. They dont know a good thing unless it makes them money. Heartless pricks.
The show had a lot of potential and I enjoyed it very much. It is a lot better than most of the stuff on TV but much more expensive to produce that another reality show.
Of course I think Human Target should have been renewed for a third season. My thinking this is half the reason I ended up on this site in the first place! 😉 Why did it fare so poorly in ratings? Unfortunately, FOX took to moving around a number of their shows this year, including Human Target and Fringe. Human Target started later in the season than other shows and went through a series of airtime changes. Dedicated fans would do whatever they could to catch episodes when they aired but FOX was consistently inconsistent with its timeslot. That, coupled with… Read more »
A really great show. Very disappointed that Fox cancelled it. Here’s hoping it gets picked up by one of the cable networks and given some consistent air time……
I will no longer be watching FOX. In typical FOX fashion they mismanaged this show and then wonder why the ratings weren’t better. Human Target deserved at least 13 more episodes!! I liked both season 1 & 2 and thought there was plenty of material for season 3. Hope another network has a chance to pick-up this show. I really enjoyed the five actors and look forward to watching whatever projects they move on to next.
save human target
I’m disappointed over Fox’s decision to cancelled “Human Target.” The way the network treated the show, especially in January, with irregular days and time slots. There were problems with season 2 (season 1 was better), but the show was fun and adventurous, which you can’t say much in today’s world of CSIs, Law & Orders, and NCIS-s. Fox should have given the program another 13 episodes as a mid season. Give it one more try…ratings were up and down, but not completely down to the point of major cancellation. Another quality program shot down. 🙁
I love this show! I knew this was coming! One less reason to watch Fox is the only bonus. They never give shows a decent chance. Human Target might have been a better fit for USA or TNT. I loved both seasons. I loved the addition of Indira Varma. The original core cast was awesome, Mark Valley, Chi McBride and Jackie Earle Hailey – I will keep watching them in whatever comes next for each of them.
I did not care much for the additional characters in the second season but still watched every episode faithfully. I really liked this show and it was one of the few I looked forward to every week.
FOX is so insane!!! Human Target is a gem!!!
Best show ever!! That network makes me sick to my stomach when I think of them but they know we, the viewer, can’t do a damn thing. Total bullying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
