Today, Katie Couric said farewell to her cancelled daytime talk show, Katie, after two seasons. The show was reportedly dropped due to mediocre ratings and high costs.
The final episode’s guests were Morgan Freeman, Susan Sarandon, Valerie Harper, Martina McBride, and Josh Groban. In his first appearance on the show, Groban brought flowers and noted that he’d wanted to appear sooner but had been on tour.
There were also plenty of taped farewells from stars like Betty White, Barbra Streisand, Jimmy Kimmel, and Drew Brees.
In the show’s final moments, Couric thanked her staff and her audience for their support and noted that it felt like the end of an era — even though the era has only lasted two years.
Couric is moving to Yahoo! where she will serve as a global anchor for the site.
What do you think? Did you watch Katie? Did you think it was a good daytime series?
I loved the show. Do not understand why it was cancelled. Loved the fact that Katie looked at some serious subjects and gave us different points of view. Do not understand why the show was cancelled. I am curious as to what those people who sit in the large chairs in the large office think we who sit in our relatively small chairs at home would like to watch on TV. I know my IQ is underestimated, but if you are interested, it is 137 and I loved Katie. Please tell her I will miss her in the afternoon and… Read more »
I liked Katie,, but she did not have the personality (mojo) to have a talk show , I said to my friends this show will not last, she is better on a news show
I am literally shocked! This is Katie Couric who very few people do not love. I was watching her over Dr. Oz and Dr. Phil, both whom I like very much. Someone said she didn’t interview people well. That’s ridiculous..she’s a natural. I am just disappointed beyond words. There are many talk show persons on television who should take lessons from her (would love to list a few but I won’t).
The public should have more to say about what we want to see. I don’t trust nelson ratings and havn’t for many years. The method of rating what we have available to us on our television needs a major overhaul.
I can not believe they cancelled her. I think something was going
on behind the scenes. What they replaced her with in Denver is
awful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
we get steve harvey out here which is awesome
I am so happy that it was canceled. I just did not like how she interviewed people. She just does not have the personal touch to do so. Now, lets get someone who has class
It would be interesting to hear who you think has class.
I think she is a classy lady. Sorry about the person who wrote that comment . I do not watch talk shows, but I find myself watching Katie because of the interesting topics she presented. You can actually learn something other than people’s personal lives and gossip.
Any show of quality in this era is dropped. I loved Katie’s show – watched it every day – has a smile, interest for her guests, empathy & a total joy to spend an hour with. Shame on the station for not making a choice for class vs crap.
Most talk shows showcase scandal – Katie showcased real people with concerns & success –
I loved Katie, I enjoyed her show and DRV’d the program every day just to be sure to see it .
They leave shows like Dr. Phil on TV which I would never watch !!
Another good show shot down!!!!
I used to wake up just to watch Katie on the Today show.. however, she changed her tactics as an interviewer that did not sit well with me.. I watched her show a couple of times.. and saw that same tactic… and decided it wasn’t something I was interested in supporting by watching.
What tactic are you speaking of.
I just hate that Katie Couric’s show has been cancelled. She had interesting guests on. There were no gimmicks to speak of. She was a breath of fresh air and I for one will miss her and her show. Good luck to you Katie and God bless.
Agree to bad
I loved the show. It was quit entertaining. She is such a joy and always up and happy. We will miss her.
I really liked the show. I almost always like the guest and of course I love her!! I’m really sorry to see her go.
I LOVE THE KATIE SHOW…BOOOO TO THE NETWORK
I agree. I felt that Katie had hit her mark with this show. It had quality and class. The first few were a little shaky but from then on, Katie hit her stride. Too bad….trash TV sells. Don’t give up Katie!
Well said
I’m not really surprised. I liked Katie as an anchor/news reporter but as a talk show host I wasn’t impressed so I stopped watching from the get go.
I loved Katie’s show! She always had interesting guests and lots of information. She is a lovely, intelligent lady with a lot to offer those of us that are now retired. Can’t stand soap operas. This was like a breath of fresh. A great loss to the network. Good luck, Katie, in your new marriage and career.
I so agree. She didn’t nor dose she need the network. They needed her and more like her.
I think her show was great I DVR’d it everyday incase I didn’t get to watch it. They always take off good shows & leave trash on.
AMEN
Pray tell , Sue, what is “overrated” about Katie? And Tony, what is bland about Katie? Granted she is not Jerry Springer. Is that the problem? As others have said, People who are interested in excellent conversation and debate about valuable topics love her. It seems the “reality” governed people are not. That may mean that the “reality” governed people lack the intellectual interest and / or intellectual capacity to choose anything but crappy TV. Others have made the possible more accurate assessment that what the networks offer us in daytime TV is sad. But the networks obviously are offering… Read more »
