Today, Katie Couric said farewell to her cancelled daytime talk show, Katie, after two seasons. The show was reportedly dropped due to mediocre ratings and high costs.
The final episode’s guests were Morgan Freeman, Susan Sarandon, Valerie Harper, Martina McBride, and Josh Groban. In his first appearance on the show, Groban brought flowers and noted that he’d wanted to appear sooner but had been on tour.
There were also plenty of taped farewells from stars like Betty White, Barbra Streisand, Jimmy Kimmel, and Drew Brees.
In the show’s final moments, Couric thanked her staff and her audience for their support and noted that it felt like the end of an era — even though the era has only lasted two years.
Couric is moving to Yahoo! where she will serve as a global anchor for the site.
What do you think? Did you watch Katie? Did you think it was a good daytime series?
I would watch but there was always an unsettling feeling about Katie. I couldn’t put my finger on it. She seemed so formal and stiff, concentrating on following a script to the letter that it left no room for a natural conversation. In that respect, she seemed to be a phony, a fake. Left you wondering who is the real Katie? Like when she anchored the News; she was so stiff and stoic…a deliberate attempt to shake her “cute” reputation. She went too far. It was annoying to watch her on this talk show, so fake and her attempts to… Read more »
I could not have said that better. Perfectly said!!!
The Katie Curic Show ,was the most interesting female talk show on the air ,you and the Dr. Phil’S Show [ male ] Many Peopel will miss you and the show ,It was the highlight of the day. Thansks for the great topics and interesting people.you introduced to the TV audience
I am sorry to see this show cancelled. I think Katie had class, really enjoyed the show
the katie show was a breath of fresh air.
you never get it right you had rather pay for some kind of crap rather than
to be proud of what you produce.i will be switching channels.i am tired of crap.
you watch it……………………………..
I was watching. However, after I made a comment on twitter about 1 of the shows and she decided she didn’t like it, I was told not to post anymore. It was a show about kids and college. They gave the kids a bag full of trinkets. All I said is I thought it would have been nice to have included a laptap or tablet in the bag. That’s what kids need nowadays, right? They ask for feedback on the shows then when u give it, if she didn’t like what u had to say, they wouldn’t allow u to… Read more »
I was really sorry to hear that your comment had that response! I don’t know if we should blame Katie for that though – probably a staff member – and a pretty young one who is not looking at putting a kid through college! Nevertheless, pretty insensitive! Overall though, I still miss her show. Other than the news shows, afternoon TV is pretty bad. Although I am a far, far cry from appreciating all the new technology, I would be lost if I couldn’t DVR and have something to engage me when I got home at 3:00 pm!!
Katie, is very sweet, but I felt she acted a bit stuck-up. I don’t think she meant it, that is how I perceived her. Had to turn the channel quickly. I do only wish her the best!!
I’m very sorry to see that Kate’s show was cancelled. It was VERY informative, she kept discussions moving along, addressed timely issues and events, was entertaining, did not rely on sensationalism and addressed a wide variety of topics. The networks choose to air shows that have terrible yelling and screaming, aren’t suitable for younger minds and display behavior we don’t want our children to learn. Kate’s show was just the opposite. I looked forward to it every day and was mostly suitable for young minds. Please tell Katie that I wish her the best in whatever she moves on to.… Read more »
I enjoyed Katie everyday. It was always enlightening. It had wholesome, clean values, and integrity. I hate to see it go off the air. It reminded me of OPRAH. Ever sine Oprah wet off there was no one to take her place. Now I will shut off my television at 3:00. I do not care for Ellen (it is too much foolishness. It is always the same. When something is good they get rid of it.
Katie is so refreshing and sincere…easy to watch and good current topics without all the screaming that I hate on other shows and the photography was normal and not jumping all over the place….it wasn’t all free gifts…there was more substance so pleasant to watch will miss her and wish her luck and will free my time for another hour….she had a comfortable mix–it was refreshing and still informative…
I thought Katie’s show was great. Her show had great guests, great ideas and the informative information she shared. My family loved this wholesome daytime show. In today’s market it was great to watch a show that did not have sensationalism over the top drama, chaos. To know there are still shows that have integrity, values and morals. Just as Katie herself does. Sorry to hear of its cancellation.
I loved Katie’s show and am very sad to see it go. It does not make sense to me that it was cancelled. I will miss her, such a loss for daytime television.
I enjoyed the shw at first, but she got too political and you could see what side she was on. There are other stations that handle the politics…not a talk show. I stopped watching. She got herself in touble on the Today Show because of that!
A great loss!
Love her and going to miss her please somebody bring her back and take off some of the trash on TV.
Liked the show. It was interesting and diversified. However, I did hear through the grapevine that she’s NOT as sugary sweet as she likes to portray herself!
