It’s “lights out” for FX’s new boxing drama series. FX has cancelled Lights Out after one season due to poor ratings.
Lights Out revolves around Patrick ‘Lights’ Leary (Holt McCallany), an aging former heavyweight boxing champion. He struggles to find his identity and support his wife and three daughters after retiring from the ring. The poor economy and a series of bad investments leave Patrick at a perilous crossroads; battling the urge to return to boxing or reluctantly accepting a job as a brutal and intimidating debt collector. The show also features Catherine McCormack, Pablo Schreiber, and Stacy Keach.
Though some critics applauded the series, not many people watched the premiere in January. It registered just a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.487 million viewers. The second episode dropped to a 0.4 rating and 0.92 million viewers. The season has averaged a 0.4 in the demo and 0.88 million.
To no surprise, FX isn’t ordering a second season of Lights Out. The cable channel made the announcement today and indicated that the final two episodes will air as previously scheduled; on March 29th and April 5th at 10pm.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see Lights Out cancelled? Why do you think it didn’t catch on?

I should have watched it just for the pecs!
What a shame! Amazing show w great story lines. They did not advertise enough!
It seems as though every new show that comes on with adult content gets cancelled. This show is absolutely one of my favorites. I am so disappointed in its cancellation. I sincerely hope that another network has the insight to pick up this show. The acting, writing and storylines are superb!. Again, shame on FX!!!!
Lights out is a very good show and i hate to see it go; wish they would do a season two i’m sure it would catch on.

First Terriers now Lights Out. FX shouldn’t bother with any more new series. If they’re any good they’ll just be canceled like the rest. I’m done trying new shows on FX. Hope you will join me.
Agree w/ everyone else. Lights Out is an excellent show, and this decision is a real shame. Bad call, FX…booo!
WHAT~!! I can’t believe this, my favorite show on TV. It amazes me shows like “operation repo” and ” southern fried stings” stay on the air, but a classy, well acted show like Lights Out get cancelled? Maybe they should try switching around the time slots and making it available on Demand the next day instead of a week later!! The other major problem with FX is the COMMERCIALS!! My god it’s crazy, you just start getting into a show and there are commercials out the wazoo. I will admit that I preferred to watch it on demand so I… Read more »
Too bad! My wife and I both enjoyed the show and thought the writing and acting was superb. Most people don’t care for boxing so I figured a series about a boxing family would be an uphill struggle. I just hope they end the series correctly and not leave it unresolved.
No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My husband and I love this show and everyone that we know watches it and loves it too. It is definitely one of the better shows on TV right now. FX should promote it more NOT cancel it. We are truly sad to see this one go.
Lights out is a great show.Creative writing makes it great. Alot of plot twists.Great job.Corp execs at FX making a bad call. Some other network will up this show up and/or its writers.
This is a great show.Has a lot of sub plots along with boxing. Its just not about boxing. If FX does really cancel.Another network will pick it up.The writers are very creative.Fx is making a big mistake. Corp. Execs real DUMB Asses.
What a great show! It’s a shame too. They advertise the hell out of every, thing else on ther big networks, but I have never seen ar Lights Out but on FX, & that’s right before or during the show. What a shame!
