It’s “lights out” for FX’s new boxing drama series. FX has cancelled Lights Out after one season due to poor ratings.
Lights Out revolves around Patrick ‘Lights’ Leary (Holt McCallany), an aging former heavyweight boxing champion. He struggles to find his identity and support his wife and three daughters after retiring from the ring. The poor economy and a series of bad investments leave Patrick at a perilous crossroads; battling the urge to return to boxing or reluctantly accepting a job as a brutal and intimidating debt collector. The show also features Catherine McCormack, Pablo Schreiber, and Stacy Keach.
Though some critics applauded the series, not many people watched the premiere in January. It registered just a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.487 million viewers. The second episode dropped to a 0.4 rating and 0.92 million viewers. The season has averaged a 0.4 in the demo and 0.88 million.
To no surprise, FX isn’t ordering a second season of Lights Out. The cable channel made the announcement today and indicated that the final two episodes will air as previously scheduled; on March 29th and April 5th at 10pm.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see Lights Out cancelled? Why do you think it didn’t catch on?

THIS IS THE DUMBEST CANCELLATION EVER!!!! Lights out is an awesome show! and I’m a girl!!!! lol We gotta do something to get it back on the air!
Very dissapointed to hear this news. Figures, the one show on network tv I really enjoy! I even got my wife hooked. Maybe if FX aired it at 9:00 it would of done better. Are viewers that dvr the show even considered in ratings?
I do not watch a lot of TVshows but LIGHTS is great. I want another season. Each episode evolves into a great show. BRING IT BACK.
I know the ratings were not high but this show was awesome. Best series in a long long time. Hope another network picks it up. FX did no advertising for it.
DON’T CANCEL!!! No other show on TV has my husband and I yelling at the characters!
Network TV blows. I will check tonight, but I think Mark Wahlburg’s production company has something to do with the show. This show would be fantastic on HBO.
Figures. Get a decent series started and it gets cancelled. Because the sheep in this country can only get into fictional “reality” series. Television in the U.S.has become a joke anyway. Shows are always interrupting my commercials and all America worries about is who is the next lousy singer to shove down our throats, and which pathetic man or woman can find true love out of a group of whores. Thank God for the 900 shows about medical examiners, doctors, and crime that “keep it SOOOOOOO real”. Haha. Way to go people. I am again totally impressed with masses.
Agree!!! totally!!!! I love my share of crime shows- but jeez- like you said- gt a good show and they cancel it… i’m so disappointed
Very disappointed that they canceled one terrific show. We were always looking forward to the next episode. Great acting and complex characterizations. Give it more time and I think it will catch on. This show is so far above most of the other shows on t.v. which lack imagination, are poorly written, and lack quality acting.
NO WAY! NOT ACCEPTABLE! My husband & I look forward to this every week. We always get bummed when it’s over & we have to wait another week. This series is not only perfectly casted (except Johnny..we hate him..so maybe he is well casted lol), dynamically acted, but the story line is edgy, stimulating, invigorating, & leaves you wanting for more. It never ceases to amaze me that a show with so much BITE can be canceled, when meanwhile brainless wonders seem to traipse along year after senseless year. If this show was aired on one of the major networks… Read more »
This is so stupid of FX to cancel, this is one of their best shows, if not the best! What can we do to keep this great show on the air?
This show is fantastic. The writing is spectacular and “Lights” and a very likable character. It’s awful that it isn’t coming back. I really wanted to see how it would all turn out. It’s hard to keep up with reality TV though. I know one more season would change peoples minds.
They needed to give it more time. Great show characters well written,,,,,sometimes it takes time to build an audience…
I am sad to see this show going off the air. While I was not too familiar with any of the actors in the show before I started watching, I have found most of them to do an exceptional job. The characters are well developed and the story line keeps you wanting more each week. I just got home from an extended vacation and watched 2 straight episodes without leaving my seat. I really hope this one can somehow be saved.
VERY, VERY disappointed to see this series get cancelled so soon. A great show like this is hard to come by these days. “Lights” Leary is a great character, and Holt played him exceptionally well. Supporting cast was all top-notch as well. I can only hope there will be enough outcry from the fans for FX to bring it back for Round #2…
Hopefully this will have a similar ending to Family Guy, Network canceled because the ratings were in the toilet but people demanded it to be aired again all those years ago!
