We all saw it coming. One of the most anticipated TV shows of the new fall season, Lone Star, has been cancelled after two episodes.
Lone Star centers around a handsome conman (James Wolk) who lives a double life to swindle investors and an oil tycoon family. He starts to have regrets and struggles to balance both lives and keep everybody happy. Others in the series are Jon Voight, Adrianne Palicki, Bryce Johnson, David Keith, Eloise Mumford, and Mark Deklin.
The FOX series debuted last week to a very disappointing 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.1 million total viewers. Last night, despite several days of buzz and campaigning to get new viewers, the ratings fell even lower to a 1.0 rating in the demo and 3.23 million viewers. As was the case in week one, many people who started watching tuned out before the episode was over. For whatever reason, it just didn’t click.
Lone Star has been cancelled effective immediately and the three remaining unaired episodes have been shelved. There’s no word if FOX will get around to releasing the remaining episodes at some point in the future.
Last week, the cast and crew were shooting the sixth installment. Production has now been shut down and it’s unclear if that episode was completed.
Lone Star’s spot will be filled by the season three premiere of Lie to Me.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see Lone Star be cancelled? If you watched, where do you think it went wrong?
UPDATE: Subsequent reports have indicated that there are six completed episodes with four left unaired.

Great show, good actors, interesting plot. The problem was the time slot. Look at the Monday night competion! Come on Fox. Chose another day/time.
I’m very disappointed that Lone Star was canceled. This was a fresh, new idea. Why can’t the network give it a chance and why must they be so hasty? How come every time something new comes along it’s expected to be a hit immediately? C’mon guys, show the next 4 episodes – let it catch on.
UNBELIEVABLE!!!!! Just “2” episodes and its cancelled……..how crazy is this! My husband and I totally enjoyed the show. Sooooo disappointed with this decision. A rethink by Fox Network……is this even possible????? I can say this was the only new show on Fox this season that was worth watching……I now only watch my “Fox Carolina News” on this network……”24″ gone…..you have nothing left as usual for me!!!!!
This was a great show and should have continued.
I really enjoyed this show and am sad its gone. Give it a chance.
Putting an excellent show [Lone Star] up against The Event on NBC effectively killed it from the beginning. Would love to see the other 3-4 unaired episodes (now shelved)
in a different time slot against softer competition.
I don’t feel that you gave it a chance—it was /is a very good program—at least you could understand the dialect/speech—unlike the main character of “lie to me”–should be titled—“tryto understand me”—-you should try “Lonestar” on another night—like Saturday!!!!
LOVED IT! Disappointed it was canceled. If it had been on Thursday or Friday I think it would have been a hit! Why do the networks compete for the same time slots??? Please bring it back.
I was really into the show and would like to view the rest of it! Bummed it was canceled. the dichotomy of a very likable character committing a seriously horrible crime was very entertaining! I couldn’t wait to see how he got away with his next stunt! The whole idea is just “wrong” but that made it exciting to watch! Somehow, the idea of the show didn’t grasp people’s interest and it’s too bad. I think if more people watched the premier, then it would have done better. What can ya do though, you can’t force people to watch. I… Read more »
I really liked it and I was searching for the next show and couldn’t find it anywhere. How can they cancel a show before giving it a chance?
VERY disappointed! I really liked it. I had it scheduled to DVR. My guess is that it didn’t do well because of the competition on the other networks. They should try a new time slot.
I really liked this show and am very disappointed to hear that it was cancelled. I agree that it was original, but I can see how some people might have had a problem really liking an admitted swindeler, especially in this economy. But, they did a good job of showing the moral conflict and not portraying what they’re doing in a really great light. I am sad to see it go.
I really enjoyed the show. It reminded me of Dallas and JR Ewing. I would like to see the other episodes.
I absolutely loved it…I was VERY disappointed to tune in and not get to see what happened next… I was pleasantly surprised with the pilot episode and would very much like to see MORE of LONE STAR!!!
I agree – I thought it was interesting and different.
Guy from Lie to Me sounds like gecko from Geico commercials – I can’t get past the voice.
Hope to see Lone Star on Hulu- maybe!?
I thought the plot was original and interesting I am tired of the same old cop/murder
shows this was more complex and I want more.
Agree!
They will replace it with 10 more variations of CSI, Law and Order, NCIS.
Until all 50 states have their own cop show – Yawn!!!!
