REGRET, LOSS AND REDEMPTION ON TLC’S DOCU-SERIES “LONG LOST FAMILY”
The eight-episode docuseries premieres Sunday, March 6, 2016
Los Angeles, CA – LONG LOST FAMILY features the highly emotional and touching stories of people who have suffered a lifetime of separation and are yearning to be reunited with their birthparents and biological families or find children they had to place for adoption long ago. Either because of circumstance or fate, they’ve barely – if ever – met. The TLC series premieres Sunday, March 6 at 10/9c.
Hosts and well-known television personalities Chris Jacobs and Lisa Joyner are both adoptees who have embarked on their own journeys to discover their biological families. Each episode follows the hosts as they investigate the stories of two individuals or families who have longed to resolve their lifelong searches. The stakes are incredibly high: a successful investigation offers the promise of not just a heartwarming reunion, but also a chance of redemption for people who have wrestled with emotional agony for years.
There is no simple path to find the missing loved ones. With tightly held family secrets in their way, the odds are stacked against them. Lisa and Chris conduct painstaking searches through public records, and utilize the latest DNA technology in their search for answers. But what they discover, and who they find, is anything but expected.
Some incredible stories include:
Rita
A mother who was forced to place her baby boy for adoption 31 years ago. Rita’s boyfriend dumped her when she told him she was pregnant and her mother sent her to a home for pregnant young women for fear of a scandal. Still holding on to his baby blanket from the hospital, she longs to meet her son again and keep the promise she made to find him.
Jenny
Her birth mother was the daughter of a minister who was deeply embarrassed by a pregnancy out of wedlock. Because of the lack of support offered, she ended up placing Jenny with social services. The search for Jenny’s birth mother takes a dramatic turn, when photo evidence suggests they may have been unknowingly connected for years.
Diana and Jeannette
Two women in search for the father who suddenly vanished from their lives when they were just 4 and 5 years old. With no memories of their separation from him, the women have grown up haunted by his sudden disappearance. They hope he can be found so they can see him once again to find out the truth and ask him what happened.
Ancestry, the largest provider of family history and personal DNA testing, is teaming up with TLC as a sponsor of the upcoming season. As part of the show sponsorship, Ancestry provides family history research on each of the featured individuals to help make discoveries possible.
Long Lost Family is produced by Shed Media for TLC.

My story begins when I was 2 ½ years old when I was delivered to my new adopted home. Then around 7 years old, my neighborhood friend told me I was adopted. My adopted parents didn’t want to tell my brother and I about it until we were older, but at the time, it didn’t bother me. I was happy and loved and the meaning of adopted didn’t really mean much. As I aged though, the thought that there were 2 people out there that gave me away. The explanation the adoption agency told my parents, made it to sound… Read more »
My Cousin has brain cancer and we don’t know how much longer she has. She had a son born 8-26-1973 in Milwaukee WI , she had to give him up for adoption because her parents forced her. She has been looking for him for a long time with no success. She wants to let him know she didn’t want to give him up and she loves him very much and would just love to hold him one more time.
I have seen this program several times and am very interested in what the hosts do. I was adopted at eight days of age in a small town by the name of Perry Oklahoma I found out that I was adopted when I was 13 years of age My Mom gave me the papers and I still have them so I know who my birth parents are. what it is that I do not know is my brothers or sisters. I have been doing genealogy for some time and have never gotten further than where my parents are buried. My… Read more »
I wish someone would help me. I was put up for adoption because I was the third girl and he wanted a boy. I’ve looked for years and spent money with no answers.
I was adopted at about 6 weeks old (from what I have been told) and this year I will be 55. I have spent numerous hours/days/weeks/months trying to search on my own with no luck. I believe I have my birth mother’s name because I have a copy of my original birth certificate and of course the amended birth certificate with my adopted name and my adopted parents names listed. I have had some health issues and I am wanting to know if any of them are hereditary. I have always wanted to search for my biological family. I was… Read more »
Don’t give up! Check to see if your State has all Birth Records open. I am the Adoptive Mother. I helped my adopted daughter find her biological mother last year after all birth records opened in the state where she was born. We hired a Mediator to make the contact after hours of my research. My daughter’s birth mother who lives in another state was visiting in the state where I live and ask to meet me. Unfortunately my daughter lives in another state and has not yet met her biological mother. We all keep in touch by email these… Read more »

I realize this program is support to show the good side of re-finding your family but it also doesn’t always turn out as we hope. When I re-connected with my birth mother it was very cold as if she really didn’t care if I ok, but thank god other family member did and I have a great relation with my remaining sister.
Hey you folks looking for your natural parents-google “Search Angel’.These are people who will help you connect without the large fees.
I use ancestry.com, and I found my brother-in-laws family. Divorced parents hid info for 60 years that he had half-sisters and a lot more family. Always considered himself of european Jewish ancestry but found out that he was more Scottish which never was a thought. NJ & SC

My mother was adopted by my grandmother when she was three years old. She did not know anything about her adoption until last summer when she found out that she had been abandoned at a church, adopted by a family, then returned to the orphanage at three years old and adopted again by my grandpart es. Interesting though, her father was murdered just months after she was brought into the home. We only found out these facts last summer and my mom will be 92 years old in May. The orphanage couldn’t give us any information because of NC adoption… Read more »

Thank you for your show. It has given me hope. I’m 58 now and I need to find my biological father. I’m not adopted. I guess I’m considered illegitimate. I found this out when I when I was 18. I’m sure there are other people like me. I have a name and some information, how do you peruse this? My father’s family knew me for 6 months. I have so many emotions about this. Are there groups that help people with information? Anything could help. Again. Thank you
