Take four middle-aged men, a tropical location, and increasing danger, and you’ve got Amazon’s new series Mad Dogs. At the winter TCA press tour this week, the series’ executive producer Shawn Ryan discussed the new dark comedy.
Mad Dogs premieres on Amazon on January 22nd.
Based on the UK series of the same name, Mad Dogs stars Steve Zahn, Michael Imperioli, Romany Malco, Ben Chaplin, and Billy Zane as friends who travel to Belize on vacation. Things go awry almost immediately as the group is drawn into a plot of mayhem, lies, and murder.
Speaking at the press conference, Ryan said the show is really about a certain kind of American man:
This is a show about the uselessness of the middle aged man. American men are raised as kids with this idea of American exceptionalism. The idea of the American dream. You can achieve things. … These are men who have hit a ceiling, who aren’t going to achieve the dream they had when they were 20 or 25.”

What do you think? Did you watch the original UK series? Will you watch this new series?
As a Belizean I’m offended by the acters sounding Jamaican !
