Robert Vaughn, star of The Man from UNCLE, has died at the age of 83, Deadline reports.
The actor played secret agent Napoleon Solo on the NBC spy thriller from the 1964 to 1968. The cast also included David McCallum and Leo G. Carroll.
Born in New York City, Vaughn got his start in acting when he moved to Los Angeles to study theater in college. He made his television debut in 1955 on the NBC medical drama Medic. From there, he went on to appear in several film and TV series such as Gunsmoke, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, and The Dick Van Dyke Show before landing the role of Napoleon Solo on The Man from UNCLE.
After the NBC series ended in 1968, Vaughn went on to star in dozens of TV shows and films, including the 1983 CBS spin-off TV movie Return of the Man from UNCLE. In his later years, Vaughn switched to roles in UK TV series like Coronation Street and Hustle.
He last starred in a 2015 episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
