While watching the second season of Men of a Certain Age in January, many viewers were dismayed to hear that TNT was calling the sixth episode the “season finale.” Had the show been cancelled?
Actually, TNT decided to cut the season into two parts. At some point, the cable channel increased the season order from 10 to 12 installments. The first six finished airing in January and now the second half dozen episodes are set to begin airing on Wednesday, June 1st at 10pm.
The first half of season two attracted a 0.5 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and an average of 2.16 million viewers each week. That’s a significant drop from season one which registered a 1.0 in the demo and an average of 3.19 million.
Will Men of a Certain Age be renewed for season three? That will likely have a lot to do with how well the remaining episodes perform in June. Unless the ratings pick up, it doesn’t look likely that we’ll see Ray Romano, Scott Bakula, and Andre Braugher on screen together after that.
What do you think? Are you glad to hear Men of a Certain Age is returning? Do you think it’ll get renewed for season three?

I’ve heard some people talk about watching the show, and I think that because it’s “Ray Romano” they think it’s supposed to be a comedy so they don’t continue watching. Maybe TNT needs to promote it a little differently. I don’t know. I know I just gave it a chance and now I look forward to watching every week and I’m disappointed when the 6 week long seasons are over way too soon. And BTW what ever happened to the seasons running from Sept to May and there being reruns in the summer!!
I also just saw this posting and actually just discovered Men of a Certain Age. Within the last week or so, I have watched all of seasons 1 and 2, and I love the show. I so hope it comes back for a third season. As someone who is even beyond a certain age, I find it very realistic and touching. I can’t wait to see what happens to each of the characters, which, by the way, are extremely well-defined.
I realize that this post is over four months old, but I just discovered it and am absolutely livid to read that “Men of a Certain Age” might be cancelled unless the ratings pick up. What IS it about the powers-that-be who run TV stations?! Absolute trash gets “picked up” season after season, but a show with nuance, heart, humor is teetering on the chopping block, and the dumbing down of the TV audience continues. Infuriating!
Please please please continue this show. It’s a wonderful show – my partner and I love it and always watch it. It’s well-written, well acted, and deals with grown up subject matter. The only other thing that is good on TNT is The Closer.
Love this show. Characters well thought out- very realistic and enjoyable. Please don’t cancel this show-seems anything with quality always gets cancelled.
I am a ‘man of a certain age’ and the show really hits the nail on the head for me. I think it’s one of the best, most honest, sincere and entertaining shows around these days, and sincerely hope it gets renewed for another season!
I just found out about this show when Ray Romano was interviewed on Fresh Air. I watched all of the episodes in a week. I loved it and will be upset if its canceled.
This is by far one of the best shows my boyfriend and I have ever seen……….totally realistic!!!!
I so hope it’ll be back for a third season. One of the best shows on TV–the only current show I watch.
I find it ironic a show tailored for the 40 something demographic hinges on the the success of people mostly not in that demographic. I know money is money, but what other hit shows are TNT showing….more L&O repeats?
Every week I look forward to MEN OF A CERTAIN AGE!! This show has introduced me to TNT and the other fine shows it offers…but MEN…being my absolute favorite!! I find the story lines exciting to watch and the combination of drama/comedy by the superb actors Ray Romano, Scott, and Andre sincerely entertaining! I would be very upset if this show would not be renewed for a third season!! If men goes…so do I, from TNT!
This a great show. It is meaningful drama which is often inspirational. Why does everything have to be for 18-49 yr olds? – I have much more disposable income now then I did then. This show is the smartest and most meaningful production I have seen on TV in Reality Era for sure. Not every show has to feature an alien (from outer space) or someone who becomes famous for acting like an idiot.
i LOVE this show and hope it doesnt get cancelled. best down to earth comedy on tv
I’m with this group. Great show, way too good to cancel.
Please do not cancel this show! It is wonderfully written, casted, and needs to come back for season 3!!!
