Tuesday night, FOX debuted a new drama for the Summer months, Mental. So, did the premiere’s ratings make the network crazy-happy or just drive them crazy?
Mental revolves around an unorthodox psychiatrist who becomes the Director of Mental Health at a fictional Los Angeles hospital. Created by Dan LeVine and co-executive produced by his sister, Deborah Joy LeVine, the series stars Chris Vance, Annabella Sciorra, Derek Webster, Jacqueline McKenzie, Marisa Ramirez, Nicholas Gonzalez, and Edwin Hodge.
The series premiered on Tuesday night and finished in third place for the 9pm hour with 5.8 million viewers and a 2.1/5 rating/share among the 18-49 demographic.
Those numbers aren’t that impressive but the drama did build on its lead-in, a rerun of the popular and very compatible House. There was also very little drop off between Mental’s first and second half hours, indicating that most watched the entire episode.
So, while Mental didn’t have a great debut, it wasn’t bad either. As we enter into the Summer months, viewership tends to fall off so the network may be okay with these numbers. But, will people return for subsequent installments? Will FOX give the show a second season once all 13 episodes have aired? We’ll have to wait and see.
So, what did you think? Is the show worth keeping or should it be cancelled?

Keep Mental….like any other show just beginning it needs to find its audience, it found my family and we love it…just like Bones it has to be seen in order to be watched and built into a show you can’t miss.
So Mental Is a keeper…..if you don’t keep it my family will go Mental!
I enjoyed the show and do hope it will return.
I have enjoyed the tv show MENTAL. I hope it will continue on! We need more shows like this.
I say keep it and bring it back for another season I am in the field of Psychiatry and its so not realistic however it is nice to see the characters as well as the stories are intriguing and fun
KEEP IT! My boyfriend and I are totally hooked on the show. We faithfully watch it. I don’t watch much tv and i have thoroughly enjoyed the show. It is tv so therefore it does not have to be realistic just entertaining and it is that for sure. It get a giant LOVE IT from me.
please keep it… its a different kind of show… really cool
Please keep it! Both shows are very interesting, but Mental is not nasty.
Definitely keep it. I am in the mental health field, and still love to come home and watch it on my DVR. Also it gives great insight into the mental health field itself. I love how the NAMI commercials play during the episodes too. It allows those who may have a loved one dealing with a mental illness to understand better why their loved one is the way he is. I love the show and would love to see what Jack comes up with next in his life. It promotes mental illness and is an awesome show.
KEEP IT!! Way better than played out House.
Keep it. It is an amazing show. People that say get rid of it because it is fake evidently only watch shows that are 100% honest and real. Or, they just have bad tasted, Mental is the psychiatric version of House which I love. People go throughout life and see others as crazy just because they have an illness that they can’t control. I think that this is a good way to get others interested in mental illnesses and gives them the right Diagnosis if they want to look it up. Also, the military doesn’t give me much time to… Read more »
Awesome show, i loved the ending of the finale when Jack punched whats his face, i had been waiting all season for it. It would be a shame to cancel the series.
Please keep it. One of the few quality shows on Fox. House is too predictable, but Mental always has something new and interesting, and a great cast.
Great show! They should definitely make a second season. Or maybe jack should make a surprise appearance in house and treat dr house…lolz that would be a must see!!!
I think the show must go on. At the beginning I as many people who whatched, wasn’t too enthusiastic about it. But at the season finale i found out that i really wanted to know what’s Jack next step.
this show is an insult to anyone who works in this field! It is a poor representation of various mental illnesses and should not be kept on the air.
