At the start of the season, we wondered which new NBC medical drama had the best chance at survival — Mercy or Trauma. It was hard to decide but now, they’ve both been cancelled anyway.
Mercy follows the lives of three very different nurses at Mercy Hospital in Jersey City. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Tupper, Diego Klattenhoff, Guillermo Diaz, James LeGros, James Van Der Beek, and Delroy Lindo.
The medical drama got off to a pretty poor start last September, attracting a 2.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.25 million total viewers. Unfortunately, viewership fell even lower from there.
Despite the ratings, NBC ordered a full season of episodes, likely because the network needed the original programming. Though NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad said she liked the show creatively, she noted that the show’s ratings had to improve for it to survive.
The ratings didn’t improve. The most recent episode attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.01 million viewers.
To no surprise, the Mercy TV show’s now been cancelled. The 22nd and final episode aired last Wednesday, May 12th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a series finale and didn’t wrap up the show.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mercy won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to have seen happen?

I just strated watching this show on netflix to bad that they cancelled the show it was good. Maybe they change their minds and bring it back. This show is better than a lot of junk they air now.
This was a great show that never had a chance. The avid watchers like myself are very dissapointed to not know how it ends. The characters were wonderful. Maybe another network can pick it up. Primetime tv has gotten ridicoulous. One season and you are gone. I am also tired of reality tv. If I wanted reality I would record my own life and watch it.
Mercy needs a second chance. It was a great show. Now we’re all left hanging.
The television industry does not enjoy my respect as a cultural institution. They lack vision and see programming as “product” instead of what it really is- a form of art that reaches and touches millions. They don’t even have the decency to let a series wrap up with 1-2 more shows. Two great shows cancelled so we can be inundated with cultural pollution such as “The Bachelor”.
Again, a show that I like and has held my intrest is cancelled. And the networks wonder why everyone complains that there are no quality shows on. Why don’t you use you budgets for shows that make sense instead of those awful so called reality shows.
I am so mad this is all i get?… I really enjoyed this show and now i find out its just done like that!!.. I would love to see more. Who decided that this show Mercy should not have a season 2??? I believe that if they had another season it would be a big hit. I hope they re consider and put this show back on.
I really did like the show Mercy. I was really disappointed to hear that there would be no season 2. The last episode of season 1 left you hanging and I was waiting to see if season 2 would air. Why do all the good shows get cancelled and where exactly do you get the ratings were low?
omg i thought it was a great show i just watched the whole thing on netflix, cus i dont have reg tv. im very disapointed 2 find out that there is not going 2 b a season 2. u people realy left us hangin and i would like 2 know what was gona happen.
Are you kidding me? Every show that shows potential is pulled by NBC – what’s up with that? I guess it is time to give up on NBC entirely. They once owned my heart and sole. Now they get nothing.
I was very surprised to hear that Mercy was canceled. I really enjoy the show, being that Im a busy college student that also works I had to watch the show on the internet. I really feel that the show should continue. Im a very disappointed and really don’t agree with the way the show ended. Why would anyone end the show the way they did and not give any answers to what happened next. Might as well have let everyone die for the ending instead of leave everyone waiting for the next season…just my opinion
My family and I LOVED this show. It was one the best shows on T.V. we have been wondering if it would came back on. I guess not and we’re so disappointed. It was a great show and it’s a bummer that we don’t even get a closing to the show.
I did not know about this show until I got on to netflix,I think it deserves a second chance, If you begin a new series, start it with , How all the charecters changed, and do not change anything, everyone needs to experience these kind of events,Sorry it didnt continue.
I actually did like the show! I would have liked to have seen how Van Der Beeks storyline wldve played out! And if they knew it wasn’t going to be renewed why didn’t they close the show? It shldnt’ve left us hanging!
This was a great show. However, it will be the last NBC series that I allow myself to get caught up in because they cancel them all after one or two seasons! It was a great finale but not series finale and such a disapointment that we will not get to see what happens.
can’t say any better !!!!!
I have been watching and waiting on the return of Mercy and Trauma and now I see that they have both been cancelled. I’m sick a nonsense reality shows and this was a nice change of pace. Sometimes I wonder who makes these decisions. I have never been called and asked what TV show I am watching to make these so called ratings.
