At the start of the season, we wondered which new NBC medical drama had the best chance at survival — Mercy or Trauma. It was hard to decide but now, they’ve both been cancelled anyway.
Mercy follows the lives of three very different nurses at Mercy Hospital in Jersey City. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Tupper, Diego Klattenhoff, Guillermo Diaz, James LeGros, James Van Der Beek, and Delroy Lindo.
The medical drama got off to a pretty poor start last September, attracting a 2.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.25 million total viewers. Unfortunately, viewership fell even lower from there.
Despite the ratings, NBC ordered a full season of episodes, likely because the network needed the original programming. Though NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad said she liked the show creatively, she noted that the show’s ratings had to improve for it to survive.
The ratings didn’t improve. The most recent episode attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.01 million viewers.
To no surprise, the Mercy TV show’s now been cancelled. The 22nd and final episode aired last Wednesday, May 12th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a series finale and didn’t wrap up the show.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mercy won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to have seen happen?

I loved this show! Sometimes I was able to watch weekly, but I always caught up online at nbc.com! Please bring it back, it is my favorite show!
Mercy is a great show! My husband, mother in law, father in law me and many more addicrted to this amazing show. I think its b.s. that they would even consider canceling the show. I really don’t get into the drama and reality and so forth shows but this one took me in. And even at that thy can’t jut cancel it with how it ended there is so much that still needs to be told! NBC don’t know when thy got a good show. I hope if they cancel the show someone else will pick it up!
Bring Mercy and Trama back!!!! Two great shows? I watched every week!!!!!!
I cannot believe that they cancelled this show! I never got the chance to watch it weekly, but caught up online and absolutely fell in love! I am so sad to hear that it won’t be back. The characters were amazing and different than any other medical drama out there. I REALLY hope they change their minds and at least give it a season two with how they ended the first season.
The very least NBC could do is to give the fans a conclusion. This is the third show that I have loved on NBC that ends with no conclusion to the story line! Conviction, Kings, and Mercy! NBC, have a heart. You care so much about the ratings and not about the fans that actually tune in to you network faithfully. That is so backwards. You make me not want to try any of your shows out again. How would you like that? Mercy was a good show with an excellent storyline that would have made a great show to… Read more »
I downloaded every show from iTunes. Watched it on the treadmill. It was an excellent series and may have survived if NBC gave it a chance. I say rerun it this summer and see what happens….but play 3 episodes a week to keep the momentum! 7 weeks later they’ll have a lot more fans.
I record it so that way a i can watch it later on in the Day i guess that’s not helping the Rating’s while it’s being broadcast; But i’m still watching it i Love this SHOW i’ll NEVER GIVE UP ON THIS SHOW i want it back so i’ll do what ever it Take’s!!!! that’s how important this show is to ME!!!!!!!!
They should not Cancel this show it deserves a chance it has been so good and now it is ruined just because of some low ratings. you want to know what i think i think that that is pathetic. It Doesn’t matter if the ratings are low they should pick up; all that matters is that the fan’s are HAPPY and it seems to me that this show is doing so well and the fans love it. If the show is CANCELED this ruin’s my dream to become a doctor some day when i grow up and others who want… Read more »
You know what……that is BS….that is a great show!!! I agree with others, because everything doesnt fly right away they feel they have to cancel…instead of making so many dumb shows for the summer try running the good ones that you want to cancel. Give it a chance!!

This is the only show i watched on NBC so i guess im not watching any shows on NBC anymore!!! NBC you SUCK!!
I am so mad!! Mercy was the best show on tv!!! NBC you stink! bring mercy back!!!! I have no reason to watch Tv on NBC anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I personally loved this show, and will definitely miss it!!!! Man…why does it have to be canceled?!?! Now…when they look at how many people watch the show and to check ratings or whatever, do they take into account those who watch the show via hulu? Because I’m not around to watch it on T.V., I resort to watching it on hulu, as i’m sure many other people do.
Mercy getting cancelled like that is B.S the lest they could do is put together and episode to close it out I mean anyone that watching the show wants to know what happen to everyone with the way it ended.
I loved Mercy. I really really hate to see it cancelled.
I hate NBC! I will boycott it if Mercy is not picked up again, at least by another station. I echoe the statements above; I am sick of quality programming being cancelled because a billion idiots didn’t tune in. There are still enormous profits in a million plus viewers, the corporations are just so far past greed and no longer care about anything beyound the profit margin.
