At the start of the season, we wondered which new NBC medical drama had the best chance at survival — Mercy or Trauma. It was hard to decide but now, they’ve both been cancelled anyway.
Mercy follows the lives of three very different nurses at Mercy Hospital in Jersey City. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Tupper, Diego Klattenhoff, Guillermo Diaz, James LeGros, James Van Der Beek, and Delroy Lindo.
The medical drama got off to a pretty poor start last September, attracting a 2.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.25 million total viewers. Unfortunately, viewership fell even lower from there.
Despite the ratings, NBC ordered a full season of episodes, likely because the network needed the original programming. Though NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad said she liked the show creatively, she noted that the show’s ratings had to improve for it to survive.
The ratings didn’t improve. The most recent episode attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.01 million viewers.
To no surprise, the Mercy TV show’s now been cancelled. The 22nd and final episode aired last Wednesday, May 12th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a series finale and didn’t wrap up the show.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mercy won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to have seen happen?

i loved that show i really hope that it comes back that show made me what to be in the med. field i cant believe its gone thats not fair to go by rating and not by the people that watch it i hope hope hope that nbc gives mercy another season to fet there (rating up ) .
Please bring Mercy back. I really enjoyed the show. I found one show that I can appreciate on the local channels and now it’s cancelled. Please, you’re forcing me to be a reality show junkie.
I can’t understand the public. When good entertainment such as Mercy is presented,
the ratings are poor. Some of the other so called “live shows” appear on TV, even though they lack intelligence, the ratings are good. To add insult to injury, they are
not renewing Trauma another excellent, exciting TV presentation. I am truly going to miss these excellent entertainments. I am disappointed!
My daughter and I liked Mercy better than Grey’s Anatomy…! The characters were great and we looked forward to it every week. What a disappointment!
This is such disappointing news. I loved Mercy, and never missed an episode. It was my new favorite show and I am so sad to hear it wont be returning.
Very bummed 🙁
I never saw advertisement for this show, or I’m certian I would have been an avid watcher. I’ve caught the episodes online, and hope that the series continues another season!
One final episode or a two hour movie would be the next best thing if you must cancel. Or simply move it to another slot. This is something my daughter and I could watch together and really loved. Please…………..
can nbc ever get it right
NOOOO! I really liked this show. I was really looking forward to season 2.
I can’t believe it. This show was my wife and my TV time every week . We looked forward to the show and are very upset that it was cancelled.
This was a terrible idea! Mercy was the only swhow that I actually follwed last Fall. Just like NBC to screw up a good thing!
my wife and i loved this show and didn;t miss an episode. it was one we were looking forward to watching this fall. if they knew it was going to end after one season, why the cliff hanger? gahhhh i’m irritated. the new shows they have lined up look completely pointless. good one nbc!
I really liked this show. I’m a 23 year old woman that thought it was a really good show. I think that there was a lot of good shows on during the time slot of Mercy so that’s the reason for the low ratings. I hope it comes back because there are plenty of stupid shows on that should be canceled and are not.
I am totally dissapointed, I loved this show and the way they ended it was so awesome! I wanted to see what was going to happen next season. Try to change the date or maybe change the channel. Wednesday night is kind of a bad day for television. I wish they could at least wrap it up instead of leaving it up in the air like they did!
me too! i see it’s coming out on dvd in a couple months. i’d actually get it if i knew there was some closure to the series.
I am devistated! This was an awesome show with hip humor and great characters and story lines! What are they thinking? Why not try to move it to another time slot instead of just cutting it loose and give it a chance? That is so unfair to leave all the viewers up in the air with that finale. It left so many questions un answered. That’s just ******, at least have 1 last episode to explain everything!
